The gunner is too basic.
Medic is very nice to have.
Sergent is probably has the most direct utility for my playstyle.
Recon has a cape.
But the Tecker has the drone, and being able to map out some of the most sprawling bases is just something I don't want to do without. I'm just not all that efficient, and the drone makes everything simpler.
I've wanted to see Norway specifically for the polar night, but I do have Alaska at least. I'm sorry you have to go without your rig. My own is having some problems, but I'm tolerating it, for now. Hope you'll get some relief soon.
Well, normally it's foggy and cool temperatures up here, but the sun shining all night gets somewhat annoying after a while.
At least it's on sea level, and not like up in Telluride when I visited over there some years ago.
So I was taking two-three gunners with it on my missions, until I started getting into slight problems (because I was lacking the grenade launcher).
Therefore, M41 Pulse Rifle is still the best weapon because of the grenade launcher. And you need it to counter rooms full of eggs.
Medic is the worst class. Completed the game w/o it. If you need to rely on a medic, you're doing something wrong in this game.
My setup is:
Primary weapons: M41 Pulse Rifle x3
Sniper rifle x1
Special weapons:
Shotgun x2
Mine x1
Flamethrower x1
Once I unlock M577 APC, I tend to equip the 5th marine with the smart-gun and RPG.
I use RPG to counter packs of cultists hiding behind cover, beyond the reach of the grenade launcher and for Cat2 Xenomorph encounters. It shreds 25% HP off in one shot.
Sergent x2
Recon x1
are the core of my group.
The 4th and 5th are optional, could be a gunner or two, a tecker, a 3rd Sarge or a 2nd recon, or any combo of these for 5-man setup.
I find the only use for a tecker is to use the drone for scouting and making noises for distraction, as I tend to pick the smart-ass perk for my other marines, so I don't have to rely on a tecker that much.
followed by sarge
Gunner is pretty great when it comes to firepower and firefights.
Thus Sergeant is for me obsolete.
My play-style is different. I like to plant mines behind me and I do plant a LOT of mines before those "you defo gonna die if you open that door or press that button" events.
It takes 5 mines to kill a Cat2 Alien. When you know a massive onslaught is gonna get triggered next, my soldiers never complained.
I'd rather spend a minute or two on prep, than risk endangering my marines.
It works on aliens, but not so much on maps full of cultists, guardians, or WY commandos.
EDIT: That is actually 6 command points and 21 total. So used to playing with only 2 marines in squad.
Yes, it does.
Some players go all in, while others prefer a more stealthier approach (me).
And don't you mean retribution (v)?
I almost never use it as I like to save my tools for welding doors behind me and repairing turrets (less often).
As a rule of thumb, my goal is to gather more resources from a mission deployment than spend. Cause making tools costs materials. I stick to this rule till late mid-game, after which point materials become trivial.
It is called Retaliation in the codex. It is called Retribution elsewhere.
