Do I need data pads?

damn achievement is bugged more often than not anyways. I've gotten all the datapads twice now and still never got it proper.

Green-lit datapads are a waste of time, unless you wanna read random, unrelated emails, that barely reveal the story-line.
Orange-lit datapads are part of an objective.

It's entirely up to you whether you want to include this part or leave it out.

There is one mission where having gathered the Data pads before locating survivors helps you decide if you should trust the survivor or not.
