Endless spawning
Greetings.

I discovered this game recently and am currently enjoying it. Well, *was*.
I play in hard difficulty, I like the first few missions a lot. But now I'm on infestation level 3 or something, and every mission is just non stop spawning of aliens. I mean, where I am now, I've put my four turrets in a corridor near an alien entrance, and it's non-stop killing-spawning-killing-spawning-killing-spawlling, as soon as the former warrior dies another directly arrives. It is the intended behavior?
It was quite fun advancing in stealth with the occasional mayhem happening, but now I don't even have the time to loot a seconds-before-empty room without some Jack-in-the-box wannabe appearing out of nowhere.
It makes me want to do my primal scream at my screen.

I read that as cosplay.... That would be some story twist.

Don't worry it gets worse.
It is intended.

Putting turrets near the alien entrances...wtf dude? Its not the play, should be obvious. Keep cruising stealthy as long as you can, use turrets only on alien waves / defense phases.
You will have an option to hold the infestation by 1 day cost of 10 xenomorph materials later, but...anyway if you are on 3rd level already just after a few missions, I don't know if you will be able to finish the game if you proceed with same efforts.
Mission should be closed during 1-2 raids, later missions - 1 raid mostly.

Since I discovered that turrets for some reason do not activate an alert, I usually put them in an a way so that they kill roaming aliens leaving me the occasion to explore the area.
In this particular case, an entrance point was near a room I wanted to explore, and that ******* alien kept spawning at that entrance non-stop. Like, after some time the floor was covered of dead bodies, and I didn't even have the time to recover the DNA between two aliens. After a rage quit and loading back into the game, the spawning god was sated and I managed to continue the mission.
As for the infestation level, I'm at mission 6 or 7, I don't believe I'm particularly late.

I usually place 1 turret beside apc to bait roaming alien towards apc.
Especially near those warehouse where I intend to go in to explore. At least this keep my back clear.

Well then "few" means more than half of the game, you are fine then, plenty of time

I made this mistake first playthrough. You don't really want to kill aliens with sentries until its necessary. You're just going to chew through ammo and sentries for no reason.

You want to use them to bolster your position when in trouble, then pick them up and take them with you for the next encounter.
Or leave them guarding your vulnerable rear or flank while you're off doing something else.

this game is all about picking your fights
the aliens keep spawning forever like you've discovered. constantly killing them just costs resources.

Man, you gotta keep on moving. Never stand still for much long, or you won't handle the waves triggered by squads searching for you.

Today I reached the "Ain't no Picnic" (finished on Nightmare difficulty) within my 4th playtrough...now I'm 43 out of 45 achievements (should be 44, but the "archivist" is bugged).

In my 1st playtrough, however, I had to restart and downgrade from Hard to Medium, till I got the gist of it, there's no reason to be ashamed. Since I'm a very experienced strategy player I thought I would fit on hard at first, but I was wrong. If I may, start again on easier difficulties while you learn more about the maps, the quests and the enemies behaviors.

What's beautiful in ADD is exactly it's unique gameplay, since we never now where, when or how much aliens will spawn, which keep us absolutely tense and overwhelmed. That's why you can't stop walking (never run, if you can).

Keep an eye on command points, walk carefully and if seen use suppressive fire to contain the attacks. It's impossible to avoid them completely, at any moment you can be spotted.

As the friend above said, never leave your sentries alone, when you come back to pick them you'll find them destroyed. Use sentries to hold positions only in defense phases/massive onslaughters, pick them and keep going. Also, if you find yourself low on ammo/tools/medic kits, retreat, recover and come again, it's impossible to fight queens, category 2 xenos and warriors just with pistols.

Spend your "money" first on your Recon unity to get as soon as possible the sniper rifle with silencer, which will enable stealth kills.

Good luck.

While sniper kill is great way to silence a search squad, it cost command point. So having a good turret trap to kill them before they spot u is great too.

The transformer map is one such map.

U are right on the keep moving on nightmare. It sure is fun and more movie like.

Bring more sergeants.
In one of my playthroughs I had 4 sergeants and a recon.
10 command points and regains one every 20 seconds.

That is one way to play. Maybe I will try that next time.

This is the one thing that hurts this game, in my opinion. The endless spawning is just plain bad game design. Otherwise, it would basically be perfect. There should be a way to expend resources to destroy nests and stop spawns. It just makes sense. Marines should be moving room to room, clearing hostiles and securing the area. That's what being a marine should feel like. Instead, I just feel like Pac-Man trying to avoid the ghosts. It's kinda lame.
