I'd buy it in an instant, would be great if dark descent started a niche squad based genre. I thibk there would be less stealth thats for sure

Rogue trader is turn based, this is much less spectacular and fun.

What you are asking for is basically just Space Hulk Deathwing, but in top-down camera view. Since that game didn't sell too well either, I doubt anyone would try to develop the same again just with slightly different mechanics.
But if there was mod support for A:DD, I'm pretty sure some guy would be able to swap Colonial Marines with Astartes and Xenomorphs with Tyranids. Remodel the pulse rifle into bolter, flamethrower into heavy flamer, etc.

I've played a lot of 40K games (RPG, boardgame, and video game) over the decades. And Space Hulk games have been done a lot (as official games and mods), and the real problem is that they just get boring. There's not enough variety for a full game.

If you move outside of that setting, the gameplay doesn't mesh terribly well with most Astartes chapters, IMO. They don't do stealth as a rule, and they Have No Fear, they bring plenty of ammo, so what unique parts of A:DD would remain?

At a minimum, if you insist on a 40K corridor crawling game, ditch the Astartes and use other factions (IG, Inquisition (Ordo Xenos?). Mechanicus, etc.).

Also, I don't see how an A:DD mod be better than, say, a Dawn of War 2 mod (also squad based)?

Dawn of War 2 is the closet to this. Dawn of War 2 is real time and squad based. It also has cover system and a suppression system, but it doesn't have the creepy atmosphere of Aliens Dark Descent, with the exception of one mission set on a space hulk.

If you want a good squad based WH40k game, I recommend Chaos Gate Daemonhunters. You control the Grey Knights and an execution squad (assassins, introduce some stealth elements) in a campaign vs Nurgle. It is turn based though, not real time.

Dawn of war 2 is 20 years old and you control many more units

It has been a while since I played DoW2, from what I remember the campaign lets you control a squad of 4 units max.

It's also only 15 years old, but I am quibbling of course..

I don't care, I want a beautiful and atmospheric game like Alien Dark Descent XD
General Brash Feb 11, 2024 @ 8:07am
we already have it, and it's called dawn of war 2
