Why is not there a reason to not be disappointed? I am because I love this game and feel it deserves recognition outside Steam forums. I think the awards are worth something. It is recognition and respect.
Why is it LOL? I shared my thoughts/opinion. Yeah, I understand the appeal part. But there were several categoories which I feel this game would have had a place in.
Just take a look at this list/categories: https://thegameawards.com/nominees
Anyway, awards are always high competition.
And yes, I say this even when games I like win. Seriously, it means nothing.
Many people heard about Resident evil 4 remake or Alan awake 2 quite many do not even know Alien Dark Descent exist.
Case in point "Company of Heroes 3". A game which is not really liked by many players on Steam but had an average 81 Metacritic score. It was nominated in "Best Sim/Strategy" but Aliens: Dark Decent was not, even though it could have had a shot there. It didn't even need to win, the mere presence on the board would have been a good ad.
That it goes diffferent however were the judges for "Best Action" which nominated "Dead Island 2" (which had under 80 Metacritic score). So it really depends who you have in there to push for games which are not review darlings.
