Can the Death Clock be disabled?
Was about to buy this until I found out about this mechanic. That's a no-buy for me unless it can be deactivated. Thanks.

When you start a new game just don't pick vanilla easy-medium-hard options, customize the difficulty and yes you can disable it.
(they added it in the patch from last month)

Disabling the clock disables achievements, if you care about that.

Trust me, you don’t need to worry about. When it appears, just ignore it. If that “feature” will indeed impact your gameplay, then you are not playing the game as intended anyway. Little spoiler, I was surprised the game was over when it was. I still had double the amount of time left that I used once the death clock started appearing (hope that sentence makes sense).

I thought it is only the difficulty-specific achievement, like you won't get "beat game on medium/hard/etc" because technically you are playing on a custom one, but otherwise any other achievement you can get.

Oh, well, maybe. It's a Custom game, and from there you don't get achievements no matter the customization. Or maybe they do? You seem to care about it far more than I do, you can be the expert on this.

And you cared enough to write back.

Most achievements are anyway today distraction in games. You play to have fun and usually it is more fun to do things without something telling you how it should to be done. Some text box achievements aren't worth it, trust me. You personally know what you have achieved. Only useful thing I have found from achievements is that it is possible to see some statistics how many players reached certain point.

I care so little about achievements that I find those who do care about them somewhat suspicious. :)

Thanks for all the replies.

I will add that I found the death clock fairly forgiving, I can't speak for Nightmare (as I don't yet know what changes it makes), but on the other difficulties, the death clock gives you plenty of time.

It is also worth noting the death clock isn't enabled from the start of the game, so you have time to figure out a good play style for you, build a team with some back-ups, and farm some materials/XP. It starts at the end of the fifth mission, as a result of some story-related shenanigans

As intended? I have disabled the clock and am enjoying the game in my pace. Intended my ass. The devs. gave us the option to disable the death clock.

Which achievements? I have unlocked 25/45 with the death clock disabled. No mods.

It's forgiving enough even on nightmare

Well, if you can handle it you could work towards getting the training center unlocked and then just head out until you have a good bunch of marines ready to go, by then your engineers will also have gotten you a ton of materials allowing for more weaponry. Only problem is that the infestation would increase causing the other missions to become slightly more filled.

you can disable the clock and it does not disable achievements. just means you cant unlock the "complete on whatnot difficulty" achievements. the rest have been unlocking just fine
