Can marines level more than once per deployment?
Title. I did Dead Hills in 2.05 deployments (.05 because my marines were super scuffed after the final encounter so I had to go back another time just to grab the DNA).
The first deployment was to get through the tutorial and the second was everything up until after the last encounter.

My marines leveled up once over that time. My friend was playing through at the same time with me but he did it over multiple deployments and it looks like he leveled multiple times (he might've leveled multiple groups to lvl 2, i dont remember exactly).

I was a bit distracted over the final screen where I actually pick my perks so I might've missed the fact that my troops had earned additional levels, but I also don't remember getting another notification about it during the deployment.

IIRC Xcom 2 would reduce/block xp gain for a soldier who was promoted mid-mission until after the mission was complete, so I was curious if this game works similarly? Thanks.

Yes they can.

But try to keep them as healthy as possible if you want to use them after current deployment.

It might be tempting to keep your Marines in for a long time especially when you have plenty of medical supplies because you can keep them topped off and control stress easier.

But once they lose their armor everytime they take damage it impacts how soon they're ready for re-deployment. I've had Marines get injured for 9-10 days because of this, they lose several points of HP but I had plenty of medicine so I kept them going.

Being out for 9-10 days isn't worth getting that extra exp, IMO.
