Don't sleep on the recon drone.
You can take individual control of this little sucker and run it around a map to recon the entire area without risking your marines at all. So far unless I bump the drone into enemy xenos they don't bother attacking it, human/synth enemies will alert to it though.

This drone is able to make sound distractions much like the motion tracker placements to draw enemies to the area it made sound in as well making it even more of a luxury. Make sure to set it to passive mode if you have a gun mounted on it though, otherwise you lose your drone to the first xeno is shoots at.

Press space, then click the button to the far left as seen in the screenshot. You are then free to run the little guy all around risk free to the marines.

This is more than just a little useful because it can be used to find every single collectible on the map without having to worry about using up all of your ammo or having to do multiple deployments for each mission that doesn't require it due to being able to run the xenos around almost permanently without having to fire a shot.

Why would you need to recon? You see all patrolling units on your radar to begin with.

Your motion tracker does the exact same thing, can be spammed and chained.

Recon drone is just for roleplaying purposes, but it excels at absolutely nothing.

Also, if the drone got its first upgrade and can weld... yeah. It's pretty incredible to go manual control, send a drone out to weld a door halfway across the map, and then loot the tools from a chest before I leave the room. Sometimes it changes patrol patterns, sometimes it gets them all horned up to destroy a door while I walk past.

Just be mindful your marines are not totally safe. I had my marines hidden in a room, and watched a patrol continuously go back and fourth. i then felt safe enough to send the drone off, after a bout 2 more repetitions the Alien suddenly randomly decided to change its patrol and randomly enter my room with the marines in. Also your marines want to stand when controlling the Drone, and not stay crouched behind something if that's where they were when activating the drone.

The drone is just not that useful tbh. Yeah it can give you some intel but while you're in Drone mode your Marines are at risk.

I personally found the Recon Infared to be far more useful when scouting rooms.

If the Drone is to be useful it needs to have a bigger ammo capacity, because using 1 Ammo to reload a 40 round submachine gun is bad for efficiency reasons, or make it free reload. Next they need to do something about door welding, cus as it stands right now using a Wrench to weld a door for non resting purposes is a waste of time/resources. If welding was free I can see a big benefit with Drones cus you could quickly lock down a room and get defenses set up you otherwise couldn't do because Drones free up a Marine action by taking over welding.

Or if they buffed up Weld speed and increased door HP I could see the Drone bring useful. But as other have already mentioned, you can do what the Drone does much better with the other tools at your disposal

The Drone is cool, really... but it doesn't bring enough strategic value to warrant using, until they resolve this the Tekker class is useless once you get Marines with Smart Ass.

in Atmo Nightmare and Berkly's Space port the hangers both need to be cleared out right? so since the APC/ARC both park near them just setup turrets covering your guys and drop some mines and then send the drone in to wake up the sleepers, eggs, and queen. The hunt starts and the bugs get deleted by the vehicle, turret, and infantry fire.

nahh luring aliens to the APC/ARC to clear out groups is what the drone does best

well you do need skills to know the tekker class is a very important class and must be taken at every mission from 2 onwards.

This who said smart@ss are a replacement are obviously having toruble beating the game and probably want manual save or/and remove the death clock.

Recon drone is just for roleplaying purposes, but it excels at absolutely nothing.

Eggs and sleeping drones don't show on the map but the drone can make noise to wake them and lure them into mines or turrets to kill them off without setting off a hunt, as for the eggs they always set off a hunt but you can leave your marines in a safe room while your drone lures them into a trap while sealing the room and ending the hunt without it progressing. The drone makes a stealth run so much easier.

I have two Teckers, but I don't always bring one and I'm on Mission 7.

What specifically do they do that you'd always need one on every mission if you have Smart Ass?

Has nothing to do with making the game less hard. The Tekker just isn't a good class and brings little strategic value to a squad once you have Smart Ass.

It makes some noise. Big whoop. I can also do that with a motion sensor which costs 0 upgrade slots, and consumes a infinite resource.

Im not sure if its a bug or not, but today i had my team safe in a far room and my Drone on the other side of the map. I used the "Make noise" skill on the drone so I could draw some bugs away from a room i needed to get inside. Except that the bugs didn't go to the Drone, but went straight at my hidden team instead. Needless to say i didn't bother using the skill again after that.

One strategic option that techie brings is holding doors open. This can give you longer lines of sight for your regular guns and make it easier for things like popping a sniper shot without triggering a hunt.

Smart@se uses one engineering point a level 10 tekker does it for free.

One resource really isn't a big deal. Rather have another level 10 sergeant which is infinitely stronger.
