It's honestly pretty unique in taking a break from the XCOM turn based mould.

You could maybe check out Red Solstice 2, that is also real time, with squad controls and various classes/abilities. Also has coop which can be a lot of fun.

Even though it is turn based, the best way to play is to sneak rather than fight reminds me of Invisible Inc.

If you can endure the OLD, OLD graphics, along with clunky mechanics, there's nothing like Open Xcom with the X-Com Files mod. :)

Some folks have drawn a comparison to Full Spectrum Warrior, a modern combat tactical-action game where you control two separate squads that work together. That was more of a 3rd person game.

I think an updated version of the game was released to consoles fairly recently.

Broken Lines was a WWII sort of 'alternate reality' squad tactical RTS that should've hooked me but just didn't:

It was sort of a hybrid -- turn-based planning, real time carrying out of action, and try as I might, I couldn't get into it.

Their release-timing was unlucky in terms of being able to get out to trade shows to market the game -- it released in late Feb. 2020 just weeks before pandemic restrictions hit.

If you don't mind the dated graphics, the UFO. AfterBLANK trilogy has a similar real-time with pause tactics deal going on.

If you like that type of game, go in blind. Don't even look too hard at the store screen. The surprise from some of the nutty stuff that series does differently compared with XCOM & X-COM is a big draw of fans of the sub-genera.

A genuinely great story across the trilogy, too. Like, the third game even has an entire terraforming system that's one of the most interesting I've seen in a tactics game.

The entire trilogy is like... sub 3€ on sale right now, too.

There is a very old game "Soldiers of anarchy". Unfortunately it is not on steam. basically it is a pretty similar game to Aliens Dark Descent but your squad can bring and capture vehicles and you can control individual soldiers. graphics is dated, but the game has really cool features like fully destructable environment and there are multiple endings. One of my most favorite games of all time, I highly recomend to try it.

There's much less stealth and more "KILL EM ALL" combat but i think
Dawn of War 2 is quite similar.

I'm not sure why this game gets compared to XCOM so much. I love the XCOM series, but this game plays very differently.

Some people haven't played many games I guess.

I would love to see a remake of Nu-Xcom that plays like this though.
