Marines Automatically Shooting
I'm having this issue on Pioneer Station, where the marines automatically go full auto as soon as they see an enemy. I know this seems to be a bug that can occur on most levels, but is there a way to disable it without straight up restarting the mission?

The game definitely needs a hold fire option. Too many instances of itchy trigger fingers.

Its not a bug. Its part of the game design. if you look at the bottom right above your motion sensor you will see a STRESS + with red on it. This means your marines are freaking out. If you have a sergeant in your group you can hit 0 and reprimand them and it will chill them out. I had to do it twice today while finally beating the game.

You can also go and rest in a room. I think that also gets rid of it.

Also they are going to shoot automatically if you are close enough and not hiding behind cover and get spotted. If they are just firing at enemies even at long range right away then it's what i stated earlier.

Their is actually a bug with this though, as multiple people have stated having a survivor in your party although some say this happens with them as well. Me included, and its probably has to do with the ability Kill that Bastard which is just basically point and click that enemy to have your entire team focus fire on, so possible there is an overlap of some kind?

Most certainly NOT game design, it is a known bug.

Marines are NOT supposed to shoot at enemies unless spotted or directly ordered to do so by the player. STRESS+ simply means that stress levels are increasing, like when you have been spotted and aliens are hunting you.

There is also colors that indicated what level the stress is at. White (relaxed), Yellow (Anxious), Orange (Panicked), and Red (terrified). I am pretty sure at red is when they no longer care and just shoot. Again, i went through this myself and once i reprimanded them and got rid of the stress they stopped doing it. If it was a bug it would have just kept happening. Devs could enlighten us on these trauma and stress mechanics more I think.

You're COMPLETELY wrong 0 stress % marines in perfect condition... Why do morons with some type of deficiency that know nothing about what they're talking about try to explain the wrong info to as many people as they can. You're a cancer in the online community

For me it seems persistent, they start shoot when:
- Enemy enter in an overwatch, so to sneak and silent kills no overwatch.
- Enemy see a member of the group (full red line and game message).
- When aliens are alerted and when here's a massive/unlimited assault. In such cases you see a weapon icon red at top right and/or there's a message saying you are hunted.

The eventual problem is the end of alert state not so clear, but I didn't bother investigate and observe carefully. When I'm detected I stop expect stealth then prefer soldiers start shoot asap until it quiet down so probably until the hunt or event is ended. And it's the same for overwatch, when I do one it's so soldiers start shoot asap.

Fort the stress I can't say.

I guess it does happen at specific places in the campaign.
Like the last cultist fight.
You want to snipe, and then want to switch hiding spot.
I ended up force running to prevent stealth to be broken, while the recon could snipe.

Also at Tantalus elevator corridor, always someone in squad that opens fire.
And also I think the squad opens fire on the cultist in the basement of mission 3.
Other than that, I don't think I have experienced it without the enemy being in an alerted state.

For cultists it seems different than for aliens, but cultist don't trigger a hunt state so it's less important.

I started use sometimes more mines to complement silent kills in stealth play. At lower difficulty it's relatively efficient because respawn rates are slower. But anyway it's just a complement not a replacement for silent kills.
