Stuck in Berkley's Docks

Hi. I just got the game two days ago and feel like I've been going in circles. I finished Dead Hills at 100% ("98%") and went on to Berkley's Docks. I don't have the ability to hack as my four lv 3 Marines are the other four classes except for tecker. Unfortunately, all my Marines have other attributes taken so I can't use smart ass; I haven't even seen it offered. I've been trying to level up a level two Marine to level three to assign it as a tecker. I have been going back to Dead Hills over and over and over again to fight xenomorphs to see if it can give my level two some xp. I'm just wasting time and "days". I've done this so many times that I'm already at level 4 planet infestation and I'm getting nowhere - still at lv 2. I can't use my previous auto saves prior to me promoting my Marines because those are long gone. Am I missing something? Should I just start the whole game from scratch again? Not happy.

If it's a bug, then I'm stuck permanently. I'm just going to start the entire game again. This sucks.

All marines can hack normal doors, the hacker or smartass ability is required for decryption doors, and I don't think there are any decryption doors you need to go through for story progression. Every one of them opens up shortcuts or extra resources.

On rare occasion, one or two of them has a spawn point in it and it's better to just leave them locked, but (on a first run) you don't know until you open them up.

If you really want to level up, I think it's 1 exp per onslaught and stage 2 xeno you kill.

I made it through Berkleys docks just fine without the ability to hack encrypted doors. Did it with all rookies more or less because all my levelled up marines were heavily injured

PSA; Fighting random spawn xenos does not give exp.

Killing the onslaught waves, that happen when the hive aggressiveness goes up another tier, gives exp and killing the T2 Xenos, that also show up when hive aggressiveness is too high, also do.

But those are limited to two of each per deployment, can also be super risky due to involving a lot of fighting/stress build up.

Dont need a tech to finish the level, so not sure what the question is. Also only specific actions give you XP.

(to be honest I only skimmed through the walkthrough (seems correct, but they forgot a repairable synth, I think...) and read a comment with timestamps on the video (I think it is correct too).

(by the way, check the training room in the barracks? Infestation level 4 should give you level 4 or 5 (?) marines just from intensive training... )

How?! I can't get past that map. It's like I'm being forced to go to that hackable door.

Weird, I might be able to help though, is it on the second level of the compound where they teach you about gun fights? Where the dude says; "oh pick me!!!" That one?

I'm outside running around in the rain in Berkley's. I'm being forced to get a hacker to advance, which is literally at the start of Berkley's. I have no idea what you're talking about which means I haven't gotten to that point. Lol

The only doors at Berkley's that require a Tech are optional doors with resources/datapads behind them. At no point do you ever require a particular class of marine to continue.

If you're not able to get thru a mission required door, you've got a bug. Reload or restart you game, that's your options.
