It plays similar, but i don't think it's nearly as fun
Pretty close but it is pretty an old game. Do not expect a smooth sail. You have been warned. Do plan on your skill point spending and equipment well.
Which is epic BTW. Best of it's type
For my money Apocalypse is the best with the most flexibility. One of my all time favorites. Its from the mid 90's though so if you can't retro don't try it. But if you can get over dated graphics you can have some of the most intense gunfights.
XCOM is the opposite in terms of gameplay ~ it's turn based tactical, with base building and story. Don't go into XCOM expecting gameplay like Dark Descent.
You control 2 squads of marines, sometimes 3, and move them around the map using cover positions, ordering suppressive fire, making flanking maneuvers, etc. Each soldier has a role (leader, machine gunner, grenadier, rifleman) with their abilities. It's more like a simulation/Real-time tactics game but it's what Dark descent reminded me of, not X-com. No base building whatsoever though.
