What is the point of smart ass perk if you have a tecker to hack doors?
My only guess it's for level 2 when you don't have a tecker yet and need to unlock some doors for loot.... but it is not worth it a all in the long run as you can get a tecker marine before u finish that level.

Thoughts?

It comes in handy if you deploy without a tecker or your tecker gets K.I.A mid-mission.

id rather have another class with an actual useful ability or weapon get smart ass than have a tecker

the drone is so niche, it cant even scout propperly since some missions dont spawn enemies until your squad is within a certain radius of the spawn zones

Usually, if i choose a tecker, it's because my only other options weren't gunner, sniper or sergeant. The drone is nice to have and the sentry upgrade is pretty poggers, but neither are critical to doing things. The free synth repair would be nice, but there's not enough to make that worth the class.

Edit: I will add, that if the drone Did Not trigger hunts, i would absolutely love that class

ok remeber early game you are not gonna have enough tecker when you get them at lvl 3, while smart ass can be there at lvl 2.

and yeah if you don't want tecker but still need hacking, you can take it.

Its super useful to put on another class other then tecker. I've got it on my scout, and that lets them help open up doors and stuff I normally would need my tecker for. But since my tecker is a trouble magnet and constantly getting acid sprayed on them (yeah, I'm still learning and getting better, but my tecker really seems to have a suicide wish). It also gives me a back up so I dont have to wait for my tecker to heal up or for me to level up another recruit into a tecker.

I Know I was able to repair a synth without a tecker in my squad so I assume someone had smart ass?

The wierd thing is I thought you needed a tecker to repair synths?? Guess you just need someone with smart ass or did my game bug out in a good way on me??

So u dont have to have a tecker trash useless soldier class in your squad C:

You don't need a hacker with that trait. So you can bring another gunner or even better a Recon.

It's mainly useful so you don't need to rely on Teckers anyway. Teckers right now I feel are a bit weak compared to some other classes (their drones are clunky to use at best), and so bringing a gunner that can hack or such can be nice. Also, if you do have a Tecker and they get tired or injured or even killed it's nice to have a backup so you don't have to wait for your Tecker(s) to become available again.

I do wish that Teckers would get a bit of a buff, honestly. Maybe the Smart-Ass perk should take much longer to unlock doors than a Tecker does, and the drone needs a buff for things like combat (plus should be less buggy overall).

The hacker class just sucks tbh, I slapped smart ass onto my Recon when the other 2 traits were unviable options and never looked back.

They need to buff the Drone and make it more useful. I only take this class with me until I get smart ass on another Marine and then I dump the hacker into an infinite loop of Intense training as a punishment for being so useless.

Ya'll are grossly underusing the drone from the Tecker. It's probably the most broken piece of tech in the game. I'm playing on the 2nd hardest difficulty (I'm bad at RTSs, and this game is brutal, but I still like a challenge).

The drone allows you to map an entire floor while your squad sits in a room somewhere. This aids in planning the most efficient route.

The 'Make Noise' utility is what makes the drone broken because you can play it back to back to keep corralling enemies infinitely away from your path, OR into a forray of turrets to wipe the map clear of them for a bit.

I recently just used it to pop every egg (about 30+ eggs) on an entire floor and lead them all into a leadstorm, so I could then loot and move with a bit more ease.

In harder difficulties, stress is SO debilitating and can make or break a run. So reducing as much aggressiveness is key. By luring all enemies into their death, I only had to deal with a single wave, and have a significantly reduced chance of triggering another. At the very least, I'll be more capable of defending if I do trigger another.
