What exactly does this enemy do? (spoiler warning)
What do praetorians do? Aside from follow me while staying out of sight like some kind of anime yandere stalker?

Their tail does nockdown with a visible cone warning, and i've had one try to kidnap one of my guys before. Idk beyond that, they always die pretty quick

ok pedorian are actually very wielrd. the first time i ran in to them i actually mistaken it as a none hostile alien because it RANS away after takeing certain amount of damage and he has passive hp regenation.

but yeah other than the fact they RAN away they just have tail cone, and a jump abiltiy.

The don't seem to attack me unless I actively chase them down. And it seems like there is no consequence for leaving them alone

The Praetorians will usually actively try to stalk your marines and attack after other lesser aliens engage, attempting to grab and abduct your squad members if possible. I've had them follow me through a level before and evade me going after them as they wait for an opportunity to strike when I'm busy with other enemies.

Your experiences may be different but I've found them to be smarter and more of the attack of opportunity type of enemy in my playthroughs and a real pain the ass at times.

As per their codex entry, Praetorians will only really stay and fight if they think they can win, and will otherwise harass and attempt to kidnap marines, summoning its lessers to continually attack you and prolong the hunt for as long as possible until you're drained.
They're a mixture of add-summoner and harassment unit. So they'll attack when other enemies attack, and they'll also summon said enemies to attack. This prevents them from being immediately dangerous (like a queen or a crusher), but makes them incredibly frustrating / dangerous over the longer term, what with the constant stress and harassment they provide.

Oh I see. I guess because I was being quite stealthy most of the time, or would back them into a corner and kill them with flamethrower + grenade spam they never caused me much trouble. Didn't even know they could kidnap people or summon more enemies. They just seemed like these weird pacifist stalkers

Just came across my first one and I have no idea what they do. Put a bunch of mines and two sentries into it's patrol path and it died without ever seeing any of my Marines :VSnake:

I think they might be bugged a bit lol.

they do hide and seek runs, keeping you in a "detected/Hunt" status, when they do attack they can hit hard, don't die as easily, have a frontal cone tail swipe, and will try and actively kidnap your marines given a chance.

They aren't straight up fighters unless they have no choice, they try to get that aggression meter to keep climbing making the overall map "harder".

The Codex also says this.

They don't even seem to increase my aggression since they always stay out of sight. Seems like it could be a problem if you need to back away from a patrol but it is waiting around the corner that you wanted to sneak down but thats pretty specific. They also don't show up until shortly after you go up to hard aggression. Unless they are scripted. And since crushers are so easy to dodge I feel like the special aliens are kinda weak overall, aside from queens. I would be more worried if it spawned a few warriors

Question for you guys. Excluding its first appearance in the story, does a praetorian automatically know where the squad is once it spawns into the map, or does it just roam like other aliens and *then* start stalking you? Also, same question for the crusher.

On a related note, when the story related praetorian spawns in mission 3, I noticed that it wasn't on the motion tracker, didn't respond to lures, etc. but once I rounded a corner, it seems like I hit a trigger because all of the sudden, it's suddenly on the scanner like 5 metres from the squad. Is hiding from the tracker something they can do, or was that more related to that specific praetorian from the story?

I did nearly exactly this the first time I saw one! Except instead of mines, it was a gun line of 4 sentries! I hid them around a corner and got the bugger to chase me. As soon as the sentries fired, I hit it with suppressive fire so it couldn't run and it melted in a few seconds
