What can Synthetics even do for you?
Like I repaired one, now he is following me. It says he has 8HP.
Is the only option here to bring him back to the ASC?

Mine became an engineer when he got back, but he didn't fight like the other companions.

They're considered survivors. Extract them the same as others and it will count as an engineer on the ship. You *can* and i have kept one with me to absorb some damage, but they tend to hide in the middle of the formation so it's only useful when you're already pretty fubar'd
