You do not need to collect everything to finish the game.
Got it on my second playthrough.
So I guess that sums up the general status.
At the end of the day, everyone may complain as much as they like, just don't expect anyone else than players to respond.
Here it's a single item and you basically walk across the entire floor.
And because there are people who can't get it right or who just overlook something, there are things like NG+.
If they were all super easy to get, they wouldn't be particularly worth collecting and would have been implemented differently.
I didn't get this pad the first time either, but I got it the next time, which was definitely coming up anyway. There was simply too much going on for me to go there. I was glad when I got out because I had done almost everything the first time, but all in one go, so I still had 13 days left at the end. Partly very pretty tricky to start with - I thought it was great :D
