I would look at some youtube videos, a lot of stuff there to give you some nice gameplay tips :)

  • You don't get soldier experience from fighting the little enemies. I think you get exp from story beats, big enemies, and maybe onslaughts.
  • Use the apc when possible to keep roaming little enemies dead to save on ammo and health. It takes no damage as far as I know and has unlimited ammo.
  • Make liberal use of sentry turrets. They have a lot of ammo and will help conserve supplies like ammo clips and medical supplies.
  • Set down motion trackers all over the map. Use them to draw enemies out of your way to complete objectives. Since they give no exp, any way to avoid them is good.
  • Ammo boxes on maps aren't stock piled after/between missions like medical supplies, tools, and turrets. If you are doing fine on ammo during a mission, consider leaving some unlooted ammo boxes for the next day (if coming back to that map at least once more).

- killing enemies with sentry turrets do NOT count as "alerting the hive". So if you are still being "chased" or there are aliens roaming around afterwards, put some Sentry turrets where you are sure they gonna go in and it'll kill them while NOT counting as being spotted (bit weird, but its the case). Just make sure you hide somewhere that you won't be spotted afterwards when you placed them.

- Get recon class the moment you get them, the sniper + silencer is a one-shot kill for regular aliens and you can silent assassinate solo patrols or if they are sleeping without causing an alert.

- When a Charger comes in or one of the specials, don't place all your sentries next to each-other, it'll do a slam and they'll be ALL broken. Place them separated around the room, so while one of the specials are wasting their time trying to break one of them, the others are safe and can melt their health-bar.

- overloading a Decoy motion sensor to lure the aliens to the turret to clear places out without alert is OP... as luring them to the APC. Good for alien specimens for the lab!

- sometimes safe-rooms are bugged and you can't rest after closing the room... can't do anything else but open and close it back up again. Make sure it says " x rooms to close for save room" otherwise most likely you have a bugged room.

- At times one of your soldiers (because the squad moves as one entity) AI's path-tracking might fail and they'll get stuck on terrain/ freeze on a spot and stay there until you come back to them. Keep an eye on your number of soldiers every now and then. It doesn't happen a lot... but its EXTREMELY annoying when it does and you didn't see it until you are way further.

A good one its the hacker class as soon as you get that get the recon drone and use it to scout out maps very useful for getting the lay out of a place and you can notice all the danger rooms.

Great game to just jump into raw, not even done with the first map and lost three marines :D. Too bad two of them lvled up but i guess it will get easier as times goes by.

Getting the smart ass trait on a marine that won't be a hacker is useful early on as you may not have a bunch of reserve hackers to use on missions yet, after the first mission you will encounter locked doors you cannot otherwise open up, having one or two regular marines of other classes pick up this perk is not a bad idea.

- mines are your best friend
- sniperrifles with silencer make the game way easier
- place motion trackers everywhere - and if needed, use them to distract the whole mape (place some mines near motion trackers for the extra lulz)
- have i told you mines are nice? just mine every intersection

Rename your marines with names from the movie Aliens.
Not giving XP or anything but still cool

Wait until the next patch comes out, at least

Don't invest into the bravery trait. Iron Will i think its called?

Completely useless.

New room / map? play it slowly unless you already have a clear path where to go & it's clear.
Sometimes new room got unwanted surprise, not because aliens will detect you from running all over the map.

Also, ideally (can't be followed every time btw) you should find a safe room with 1 door at <= lv 1 stress, weld it & rest.
That also function as a manual save.
