Any reason to use the regular pulse rifle once the heavy pulse rifle is unlocked?
It appears the only drawback of using the heavy is 1 more second reload time.

You lose the grenade launcher ability, which makes a huge difference. Keeping 1-2 marines with the UBL is smart

I was about to ask, is there any reason to use the M41E3 heavy pulse rifle?
Same damage, same ammo per burst, slightly longer burst duration, slightly more ammo clip size, slightly higher dismemberment chance...

Is the longer burst duration a good or a bad thing? Does longer time mean slower rate of fire or more bullets per burst? The stats doesn't really look like an upgrade at all, from the workshop description.

The damage is per shot. Normal pulse has two shots per burst heavy has 3 shots. Wierdly you only find this info in the weapon tooltip during the deployment screen.

So, 2 shots in 0.75 or 3 in 1 second. (burst time/0.25)-1. More bullets per ammo and more ammo per clip. And about 12% higher DPS. Not a huge upgrade, in sustainability much more than damage, but a definite upgrade. Thanks!

Exactly! And as far as i understand it the crit and dismemberment roll also happens pershot.

The grenade launchers suck... Get the heavy rifle.
I use precision shot to kill aliens and have two recon guys in my squad.
They kill way faster then grenade launchers ever did, which is usually 2 grenades per drone on the difficulty im on.

Dismember is very useful. Its the only passive attack that seems to do anything.
Otherwise, with normal pulse rifles or smartguns my guys miss so much.

Still have one normal pulse in team for the grenade with the -50% speed debuff. Can help immensely To keep aliens out of the group.

yeap and it's great when you're holding down a chokepoint to soften up the horde as it tries to enter, finishing off much of the weaker/damaged xenos plus interrupting them like the shotgun.

I'm keeping at least 1 grenade launcher just to blow up any eggs that my sharpshooter can't silently take out.
