Normal kills either got very tiny exp / none. No idea.
Which is kinda sad since ammo is wasted if you leave, doesn't carry over, I guess they don't want to reward people for getting detected/noticed?

1. Complete Primary and secondary objectives
2. Survive ONSLAUGHT phases, not hunts
3. Rescue mission important characters or synths
4. Boss fights
5. Intense training in the barracks
6. Miscellaneous next day events.
So it seems this is more like a context based level system than a kill based one. You dont get exp from bug kills, but you get exp from bosses, objectives, onslaughts survived, etc.
This of course means, on any mission you do, dont be a loot goblin like me, when it comes to ammo.
On the first mission, i had to extract after the slaughter house, and i looted ALL the ammo on the surface. so when i went back, i had to wait til the mineshaft to find more.
