Recouping Unused Ammo
So I'm on my second deployment right now; I finished about 10/14 objectives on the first map/mission what-have-you on my first deployment before I withdrew for the day. One of my marines suffered a concussion so I carried her back to the ARC and found the last survivor before extracting.

I holed up in the Armory for a rest with the three of them and then grabbed most of the ammo in it; I was out of spare mags and middling on the ammo in each mag, so I grabbed just enough so everyone had a spare. There's still 1-2 in there.

After reloading from that point several times and finding the last survivor, I ended up leaving without using any of those spare mags, then I realized the problem.

I left with 3 magazines. These magazines are now missing from the map and unavailable to me. That's great, the persistence is actually a really neat idea. However, I don't gain any benefit from coming back with that ammo; I start the next deployment full up automatically. It's as if the ammo on the map just vanished in thin air. The only solution I can think of currently to feel like I don't waste the ammo is walk around without picking up spare mags and pray I don't need to reload.

Does anyone else feel a little cheated by this? I'm definitely not running around picking up everything I find because I know I'll have to make due with what's left on the map, and I choose how much I bring with me for tools, meds, and sentries, but since ammo magically refills to full, any you bring back with you is completely wasted.

It'd be nice if you could stockpile ammo on the Otago like you do Meds, Tools, and Sentries, and maybe bring some back with the ARC so you can refill from there before tapping the map, or something along those lines.

When we reload weapons, I think we also lose what was unused, too.

That's expected, I'm not even mad about that. Just would be nice to be able to reuse what we take out in some way so we don't grab a few spares and then lose them so we can't use them next mission.

Personally, I think this is just one of those things you have to learn from. There is a ton of ammo on that first mission and the infestation level is low, so even when you make mistakes like this it is still incredible forgiving.

I don't extract the civilians until just before I extract my squad. They only have pistols but every bit helps. So long as you don't redeploy with the car they will follow you around forever. I also tend to send the APC out in advance of where I want to go and then run my squad behind it. Using it to screen and take out enemies in the street will save you a lot of ammo, especially once you arrive at the docks and mobs spawn every thirty seconds or so and parade down the main street.

Really, ammo should be the one thing noone needs to sweat on the Otago, just out in the field, so I am glad it isn't tracked. Even if you brought back extra why would anyone get excited. They should have compartments full of it. I don't know, I like that system as it is.

I guess we'll see as I progress. I'm just getting down into the mineshaft and I have full meds, full tools, 7 ammo (I started with 6 thanks to upgrades and I found one on a body), and only lost a little armor. The only objective I had when I started was the cargo manifest (held off the first mission thanks to the dire warning) and the shiny new investigate storehouse mission so I guess I got a lot of it done on my first trip through.

Can you really call picking up 1 spare mag per Marine a mistake though?

Nah, not really, just couldn't think of a better word to use instead. It got my point across though

I never thought about doing that. Using the survivors to help clear the mission. I'm curious if they help, as in there carrying capactiy ?

By carrying capacity do you mean ammo? From the looks of it ammo only applies to primary weapons, sidearms are reloaded for free and civilians never run out of ammo. At least I have never seen a pistol run out of ammo yet anyway. If I am wrong I am sure someone will be happy to correct me.

No, secondary weapons have infinite reloads, the damage is just ass though.

*Gorman shooting his pistol in the air duct.*

Seems lore accurate.

Not really related to the topic but it's not worth creating its own separate one: ♥♥♥♥ the mineshaft. Absolutely ♥♥♥♥ it, I hate it, whoever designed it was a sadistic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Four ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drones roaming around at any one time, and the queen fight is garbage.

The first time I fought off an onslaught just outside of it so I had my two sentry guns still up and pointing away and thought it seemed reasonable to leave them pointing that way. No, the danger comes from the other side. Someone got a face hug and everything immediately went to ♥♥♥♥.

So the next time I make my way over and have to do all the mineshaft ♥♥♥♥ yet again I point the guns at the door, ♥♥♥♥♥ jumps over and immediately kills one guy before they even walk back out of the room.

♥♥♥♥ the one particular dev who did the mineshaft.

Rant over.

Is the revolver much less ass?

Instead of a '1' stat it can be '3' per shot, but it has a slow firerate and a small capacity. The SMG goes back to the '1' stat but sharts it's ammo into whatever its shooting at. Sooo, in essence: RoF vs. DpS vs. capacity.

So the ammo i pick up on the map (Day-1, Dead Hills currently) doesn't make it back to the base for reuse after i extract with the squad, i just loose all my ammo, and leaves me stranded later because i cannot pick up any more ammo from that area which i already looted, and then have to spend resources again to assign ammo to my team at deployment due to this? Basically i waste resources if i pick up too much ammo on the map to try to buffer my ammo for emergency use, but then its totally wasted if i dont use it?:D

Your Marines start each mission with as much ammo as they can carry; a full load in the gun and one spare magazine to start, so you'll at least start a mission with that much.

Otherwise yes, if you take ammo from the map and extract with it you're functionally wasting it.
