I think the main problem with this DLC is the timing of when it forces you to start it and the fact that it completely suspends all progress with the main game.
If it waited until you could actually automate the station before starting so you had the money, resources and storage space to run it reasonably, it would probably be OK maybe.
But forcing you spend 4+ hours of basically grinding for money to buy products and hoping that you have enough of the right products to do a trade until you can get the 2nd blueprint and afford the required barn upgrade just feels like a waste of time.
Trades that seem to be in region of 40+ of your products to get 1 or 2 of theirs at a time feel so imbalanced, at this point in the game your warehouse capacity and funds limit what you can get and keep a large stock of too much to have a reasonable chance of having more than 1 type of product they are looking for.
Then it sends you back to the main quest and says 'ha-ha all that time you spent selling fuel, repairing cars and selling products didn't count towards your next challenge you'll need to do it all again before you can even think about automation'.
After all that having the 1 cocoa I finally managed to get sell for so little I didn't even notice when it sold just feels like adding insult to injury.
Thank you and I am sorry I was so harsh it is however how I felt about this (I recently spent most my playtime trying to get it finished so I could go back to enjoying the game)
I think my biggest problem is when this DLC is forced on you in a new game just makes everything less fun without the ability to switch back to the main quest and just ignore it for awhile just sucked the fun out of a great game,
I know this is a me problem but the main game is a lot of fun so I usually support games like that by buying the DLC, I think the DLC should by default come with a warning so people know that they will be struggling for many hours before they can get back to the part they need to support the DLC
In my opinion, it would have made better sense to make the the airstrip and all future dlc start from a level 6 station, or endgame, so it allows you to build up your station first.
