GSS - Not Recognising PS4 Controller

As title says, PS4 controller is plugged in and recognised by Steam, but when I load game up, it will not let me use it. I have Google'd and found older articles about there not being full controller support. Surely this has been resolved by now?

I am weary of following "guides" on downloading additional software to use the controller.

For the record, I have been playing other games on Steam today with my controller so it is a game issue.

Well in that case OP can use DS4Windows. It's a simple app that tricks Windows into thinking a DS3, 4 or Dualsenese is a 360 gamepad. And yes I did read the bit in the OP about not wanting to use shady software to get the thing working but this program's been out since the launch of the PS4 and has never failed me. You don't need to configure anything, the basic settings work fine.

Pretty sure you can only drive the loader and RC car plus do some of the repair stuff with a gamepad right now. Says right on the store page that it only has partial support for them.

The game works fine with a gamepad, but I'm not using a PS4 controller as I know from previous experience that the PS4 controller is hit or miss with PC games. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't work at all. So I stopped using my PS4 controller on PC.

What does work is an Xbox controller because Xbox is owned by Microsoft, so it has device drivers built into Windows. I'm not going to get into the whole Xbox vs PlayStation debate as it's irrelevant here, all you need to know is the game works fine with either an official Xbox controller (from the 360 era onwards), or a 3rd party Xbox controller.

I don't play Gas Station Simulator with a controller personally as I'm fine using keyboard and mouse, but I did test it out for the benefit of your question.
