If you want to get down then you need ramp. Just make some thatch or wooden ramps and bop your way down.
Ladders are helpful for getting you up to high places and back down but only if you start low and go high. If you are already up then getting down best bet is ramps.

Personally, I would try to find a sensible way down.
That way looks like a 3 cheese combo! lol :D
don't drop too far at one time, you will take damage, squatting seems to mitigate the fall damage a bit, and can stop you sliding too far in a lot of instances.
Wow that sounds pretty promising because of the way crouching works with edges, thanks I'll try that next time I play too.
