Best Material
So I've looked at the stats in game and in wiki about the various building materials. I use a combination of concrete base and pillars, Scoria walls and floors, clay brick ceiling, and storm glass accents.

What's the "best" building material; also what's everyone's building choices/combos?

Tough crowd.

Concrete along with the cosmetic partner Steel Roofing is the best in all aspects. Unless you're going to start judging subjectively on looks.

Highest structural integrity so you can build the highest. https://icarus.fandom.com/wiki/Structural_Integrity

Highest insulation so the interiors are warmer or cooler toward ideal temperature than the outside by the largest factor. Putting other material on the inside because it looks nicer or it saves material actually ruins this aspect. Insulation works like shelter - it looks in all directions for pieces that provide insulation and calculates what it can directly see.

The only T8 material makes concrete completely immune to any kind of weather damage. Storms only go to T6 so stone and every other T6 material can still potentially be damaged by T6 storms. This tier value can be seen in the Tech unlock page's info. That immunity makes the Wind Resistance stat useless so it's not even included in concrete's stats.

I have have zero need to be in a different biome than the forest because i place my base down near things i need. It doesnt take long to go across the map to find a cave then i set equipment up and leave it until the next day. Rinse and repeat.

I second this. Although, I do have a bug out bag for going into the arctic. It includes everything for a quick build 4x4 concrete hut, just in case I get caught in a storm when I need to roll through those areas. Other than that, I just build Stone or higher, purely for aesthetics.

My current build is located on an island in the forest biome of Prometheus, right at the top of the map. It allows me quick easy access to the arctic to grab titanium ad platinum.

I also carry an emergency house when I go to the arctic, though I also have a series of outposts.

i primarily use concrete for building bases. scoria is good to carry when going around the volcanic region. you can place floors/ramps to get across lava. one of the best things to ever happen was the buffalo cart becoming ridable. 5 utility slots and a ton of space. spec in husbandry to get stamina boosts as well as the workshop module. i literally have a entire base and building pieces in that cart. travel anywhere and popup everything at any time. its like having an RV, except you have to still place everything down.

use it for farming exotics and doing missions. the only thing i forget sometimes is making sure when i place my bed down i set it as my waypoint. because if your human, mistakes can and do happen and you might just find yourself dead on the other side of the map! and if you cant get back fast enough, the chance of your mount getting killed are pretty high. which will cause the decay timer to start on the items in that cart. i have never lost it all. but it is a thought/fear i have

(oh, and since the farming changes i do also carry reinforced glass walls and halfptiches. this way i can make greenhouses when i need. make sure you have a GLASS ROOF when in the arctic or your crops will die instantly. yes, having just one glass wall will give the crop the greenhouse buff, but you will not have proper lighting, that is fixed by ensuring the roof is also glass)

Yep, I got my leaning bison to max level and the cart is OP. Plus have you noticed the ENORMOUS health bar on them?
