Help me save my mohawk pony!

I slaughtered its parents and then tamed the offspring. I'm only level 6. How can I give this creature water to keep it alive? Thanks!

If it is already tamed.

1) build water trough from the Ranching Station. Fill with water or wait for it to rain.
2) give pet water directly. To do this equip a water bladder/canteen etc in your hot key , select it like any other tool and face the pet and you will see an option to give water to the pet.
3) if you are near water and set the pet to wander it will go drink from a stream itself.

If it is not tamed.
1) is the only option that will work.

I'm only level 6. I think you can't get a water trough until tier two? I don't know how to get a canteen yet. Thanks for the wander advice, I can do that. Much appreciated.

Have you been able to "Claim It"? 1st stage you can only have food water around it and it will help itself. If you have been able to Claim it you can manually feed / water it.

Tamed animals will drink water from any nearby source, including lakes and rivers.

animals don't die from thirst or hunger, they just get a debuff

Yes, I've claimed it. I sure wish they didn't grow up instantly.
