Icarus
Hardcore Mode?
I thought this was a survival game, but what im seeing is that exposure doesnt really mean much, i went up to the frozen mountain top and i just got a stat debuff, wounds and infections dont mean anything and can almost be ignored.

Surely im missing something and there is an actual survival element to this game. Even food is just commonplace.

I'm still relatively new to Icarus and my experience is based solely in playing Open-world mode (level 60 now). From what I have read, open-world is a relatively new addition to the game and is still being expanded upon. Unfortunately, the flaws become a lot more obvious once you get to the higher tiers and find there's no real challenge anywhere, at least on the base map and there's also zero need to travel to other biomes, except to do Operations.

I'm hoping they expand a LOT further on the OW mode, because it is quite lacking.

If you're talking about the missions mode, you retain your levels, but I don't believe you can take what gear you make in open-world, only what gear you unlock at the workshop, through mining and selling exotics.
Unless the map allows for more custom settings, the AI is improved, the map designed is improved, animal roaming, and the spawn radious 4-8x larger, the game will be easy mode for people who regularly play on hardcore mode only.

The game needs serious work, and after some time playing I am surprised its still not in early access.

yeah i saw all the promo videos and i got all excited and it really isnt anything like that.
It feels more like a generic safari experience for those who may not be familiar with survival games or may struggle with FPS mechanics.

While there’s a solid foundation here, it seems like the developers haven’t taken cues from other survival games. I strongly suggest they look at titles like Breath of the Wild, Monster Hunter, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ark to understand how an open world should feel when mounted on an animal.

These games excel in map design, enemy AI, and open-world layout. The developers could also benefit from watching nature documentaries like National Geographic and exploring wildlife photography for artistic and practical inspiration in map creation, animal placement, and AI design.

Additionally, incorporating lore to transform these ordinary Earth animals into more challenging foes could elevate the experience. Right now, it feels more like a light sci-fi survival game, for first time video game players who never used a mouse for gaming, rather than the immersive challenge it has the potential to be.

they could also ask themselves why a bear wolf and pony all meet on a man made bridge and smell each others butts before parting ways... like damn, these animals dont even interact, like at all...

This game was designed to play in mission mode aka throw you in desert/arctic naked instead of workshop/endgame gear.

I think exposure hurts a lot even with end game gear when it comes to tier 6 or tier 5 storm.
Easy mode will decrease the tier by 2.
I agree the animal are too easy to kill, give too many meats and some debuff means nothing though.

Btw some animal do interact each other like Lava Broodling and Red backs.

play on Prometheus, play naked, i still die from bad storms if i stay exposed. one time i was dying and while trying to put down a shelter I was slammed by multiple mobs. I agree with you at times and I haven't died in awhile now.

The debuffs can stack. If you end up in a REALLY cold place, you have the cold debuff, chilled debuff and frostbite all stack up. Then you're stamina is reduced practically to nothing, you start to take periodic freezeing damage. Combine that with other debuffs and you end up in a world of hurt.

Game was much harder at launch, but too many people complained and it seemed that they toned it all down. Being caught outside in certain storm levels could kill you when the game launched.

i hate normies... the same thing happened to green hell. i swear there are storms that you can just ignore and its whatever. i dont even bother closing the shutters on my windows.

and who cares if you die? there are literally no consequences for dying at all. you just go and get your stuff back. its dumb... honestly normies shouldnt even play games, if they dont want ot play the game then they shouldnt at all.

Unless you play hardcore, and then you can only die 2 times. It says 3, but that is lives. Die, respawn, die, respawn, die again and you stay down. You lose all your gear unless it's insured. Someone could theoretically join your game and revive you, but few people seem to want to do that anymore. The combat wombats dial everything to max and then never tell people that. Last game I joined on a rescue, with massive stealth upgrades, and a whole bunch of wolves all went heads up from like 300 feet away. Normally I could sneak right up until I was 10 feet away. I bailed on the rescue attempt, f'ers lied to me. They had the difficulty so high I had to put like 10 arrows directly into the head of each wolf. F that. If I went down, I'd lose all my gear too.

why would you want to play a game like that? as it is if i am going to kill a bear i have to draw it to my house and shoot it in the face 3 or 4 times while it tries to break down the stone wall... otherwise it just eats me because its obviously the strongest thing out there. bears are meant to cause you real fear, they are the ender of your run xD. but people who make enemies sponges like that are mental, like they need to have their heads examined. again, i am questioning why people would even play a game like this if they are going to be weirdos like that.

between normies who hate difficulty to lunatics who want to kill an elephant with a tooth pick, its just absurd...
