It will take forever, no matter what. Level 60 is a long way off.

But note the activities that get the most XP, and do more of that:
• Pickaxe on rare ores found in caves
• Skinning dangerous animals, like Wolves
• Building lots of the highest tier items that you can.

Bring home the Bacon, for an XP bonus: find Wild Boar, and cook the bacon meat. The bonus will stack with other XP bonus foods, like the same bacon if it's made Crispy, in a Potbelly Stove.
Buy the talent in the resource tree that lets you turn wood into 10x sticks. Then make mortar and pestles and turn the sticks into tree sap. Then turn tree sap into other things, like biofuel in a biofuel composter.

You'll get exp everytime you turn wood into sticks, the sticks into tree sap, and the sap into biofuel. That exp is small, but begins to add up realllllllly fast.

Once you set up the mortar and pestles and load them up, they'll run and process the stuff, freeing you up to run off and do other things.

Doing Missions will help too, not in terms of EXP (As far as I know) but because you're engaging in activities and not focusing specifically on leveling up. So you don't notice the XP bar sloooowly going up, instead you're working towards other goals. The Level Up!'s happen along the way.

Once you start worrying about the XP Gain again, it 'feels' like its taking longer to level up.
Very early on: Gather everything in range. Anytime you walk somewhere collect stuff whilst walking only to delete it or craft with it later. Bag space is invaluable, as is running speed. Skin everything.

Early game: Bow (T2 preferably) + arrows (no need to get higher than iron) whilst sneaking and aiming at the head. Favour wolves/hyenas, avoid bears and elephants. Mining can work if hunting is still too hard. SIMPLE missions can be a decent combo if they are collect X / craft Y. Drop them if they are a bad kind. Skinning optional.

Mid-late game: Keep hunting wolves/hyenas one-shotting them. Move around to get respawns with a quick mount like a Moa. Horde events (geysers) can be interesting if you have set up things to make the event easier.

Missions, hunting and chopping down threes help a lot tho
food buffs, they stack, theres 2/3 you can make easy with honey+ bread and honey+bacon for 30-50% increase exp buff

killing wolves with crouch in 1 hit to head is primary for fast leveling, then other animals

chop trees , kill wolves/bears , bring ores , do SIMPL3 missions
Wolves are the best early game source of XP I've found thus far. However, I've seen people talk about how many of them there are, yet I seem to be finding hardly any in the forest biome in Olympus. They'll occasionally spawn, but rarely more than one. Any ideas?

For early on, if you want simple and safe, I'd do the recommendation of tree sap in the mortar and pestle, and wood to sticks, but mainly just pickaxe stone. But really, all level does is give you points to unlock things/abilities, so unless you want to unlock an item, I wouldn't worry about it. You can kill terranus's and wolves pretty easily with a knife. Get some knife unlocks, and some quality food buffs, and you can farm them too. Never used the bow. Went from knife, to one shot pistol, to light automatic carbine. Once you have the thumper, and are able to defend it, resources get ALOT easier.
