Regarding your performance. Have you tried a file wipe? Here's Rocket explaining it and the reason behind doing it on occasion:

When I did it a while back I found an extra 20gb in the folder Steam had left over.

If you played predominately on a single Open World for all those hours it might just be too *changed* to run smoothly. Here is a mod that allows you to reset the map back to fresh with your base intact. Backup your prospect before trying it of course.

How high is your deployable and building piece count? Hit ESC and your numbers are in the top left. If your base has grown too big this can also effect performance.

Most Icarus performance issues are CPU bottlenecks. If you have Task Manager open and see that your GPU is running below ~70% you can probably crank your settings back up and the performance won't really change.

That said, this might be bad news for you if you have an Intel 13th or 14th gen processor. Intel had a chip problem recently addressed that involved these chips literally burning themselves out and causing permanent damage and performance degradation. I wasn't effected so I didn't delve into Intel's remedies, but if it effects you you'll want to look into it.

Directly regarding the crashing when starting a Operation, that could be an issue the script is running into with item or location conflicts. Is it a specific Operation? Or is it all of them all the time?

Saw another player recently notice that his SMPL3 missions caused game crashes any time he tried to start if he was already carrying a beacon. So putting the beacons in storage stopped the crashes. Maybe try putting your inventory away could work for you as well?

I did not do a file wipe and buildings are not that high, l have reset my characters and started a new build in open world, works great for about a week of building but then really starts to lag the computer, even with not a lot built, say around 3000 pieces, it's just strange after all the game time l have spent that it's happening now, thank you
