Shelter and framing help
I'm attempting to understand the limits to construction a bit better and I'd like to get some help. Now, from what I gather, concrete is going to be the strongest material I can build on/off of with a height of 5 on its own and up to 16 when reinforced. However, I've built a section reinforced off of a stone frame with concrete pillars as support up to a height of four and anything after that turns orange and starts cracking.

Are my options to tear out the stone frame and replace it with a concrete frame and concrete pillars to achieve maximum stability? Do I need to reinforce every level with concrete pillars? It doesn't really make sense that I only have two levels (three if we are counting from the ground up) and everything is starting to fall apart..

Example;

If you want a high structure, start with concrete foundations/frames, and then use concrete walls. Put concrete columns in between the panels, and just stack them vertically. Unbroken chain all the way to the ground.
From what i have seen is that height is not the only thing that can affect damage, it can be size of building has well, so lets say you built a 8 x 8 it would need a extra pillar in the middle to give it extra support.
To avoid demolishing the existing stone foundation, you can simply ‘upgrade’ it to concrete using a repair hammer (everyone does this).

See I cannot get this to work for me no matter how hard I try. I’ve got the building pieces in my inventory, I use the alternate interact key, it shows the other building options, I click it, nothing happens.
Maybe it’s because I’m on steam deck and the button mapping is so frustratingly finicky. I can’t access all commands because there simply aren’t enough button inputs.

TL;DR version: you should use concrete foundation as base or concrete pillar to link to the ground. Dont use stone foundation or if you want to build high building.
Stone should be fine if u want to build anything less than height of 4 building(not sure on the exact value but probably more than 4)

hammer can switch material type easily as long as u have the right deployment by pressing right click select materials and left click boom in pc.

The base matter, therefore stone foundation+N concrete pillar = 1 stone pillar at the base+ N concrete pillar on top of that base.
The maximum height will be limited by stone materials which is much less than using all concrete pillar.

If it is just 1xN building only,
a bit counter intuition ,2 stack of concrete pillar is enough.u can use any wall/floor material build up to 12+ height as long as the floor or wall is linked with that concrete pillar.
N counting from solid floor.

Without any ground support, the maximum horizontal is 5 counting from the closest support point.(even with concrete) , the number WONT change Even u use addition horizontal pillar.
horizontal pillar only change the no.1234 color from orange to green sth like that.

You have to select the material you want to upgrade too and then right click or left click I forget... I would test but this fkn game wont load....
