I haven't bothered to buy the workshop ones, or even make the tier 4 hydroponics plots which use composites. I'm still using the iron ones. They work perfectly fine.
I personally have a lot of talents for growing crops, so the buff list is pretty long regardless of the plot quality. Yes the workshop & tier 4 are better, but I don't think it's worth the effort right now.
The iron ones just add water, don't the ones that add power take away the nighttime growth debuff (due to the fact they're lit)? That way I don't have to have talent points into nighttime growth.
Also a fun discovery fact (which is an "Of course" head slapping moment when you see it) that the bee hive adds a nice buff nearby the plants!
Point there being with the watering, lights, bees, and "will not wither" of the aeroponics my farming talents need not be as robust. More points for GUNS!!
It's fine if other players are satisfied with the iron ones. I'm just asking if the screwy behavior is a bug that needs to be reported.
Oh and speaking of the plants being lit, I know UV is often associated with spurring photosynthesis, but the reason plants look green (mostly) is that's the part of the light spectrum they don't absorb. So a good hydroponic setup would seem to indicate visible spectrum OTHER THAN green should show up at night as a slight glow around the plots - that would be a cool feature. Obviously we can't see UV but the rest of the useful frequencies we could...
