How to get enough gold?
In the third mission I need to get minerals. Everything is mined except gold. There is not enough of it in two caves that were near the capsule. I looked at the map on the Internet and found more caves. I visited the next two. There was no gold at all in one and very little in the other. Is this how it should be? Do I need to look for remote caves and collect gold bit by bit? This is not interesting. Or am I missing something and doing it wrong? There is a deposit that needs to be drilled, but I do not have such equipment and will not have it in the near future. It is probably very far along the development tree (I do not see where exactly). Maybe I do not understand something? What actions should I perform according to the plan?

Use the icarus online map to see all the caves, use high yield pickaxes if you can and you will eventually get enough

Some tools from the workshop have higher yields on mined resources.

Some character talents can increase yields too.

Go to more then one cave (the quantity versus quality approach).

Build an alteration bench, and make attachments that increase specific ore yields. There are attachments for gold, copper, titanium and platinum. The 2nd level attachments are +40% yield.

Look for deep vein ore deposits. If you build a drill and put it on one of those, then it just continuously pulls ore out of the deposit. Those last forever.

Thank you for the detailed answer. The "the quantity versus quality approach" I don't like in games. Thats not fun at all. I will try with alteration bench as you suggested. I hope I can get enough gold with this. I see the deposit that can be drilled, but I don't see drill in my development tree. I guess I am not developed enough yet.

Since the ore nodes that spawn are kindof random and tou sound like you are pretty early along the tech and talent trees, you just need to go searching for more caves till you get enough. If you can find one of the bigger, higher teir caves, you will probably find enough. Unfortunately its just up to RNGzus.

Yes, I am pretty early along the tree, but it's just the third mission! I didn't expect it to be that boring as going from one similar cave to another could be. I can't even get a hint in the game where those caves are. Sure, I found the map on the internet, but I am not sure I like this approach.

It's about a harsh world, exploration, and discovery. If all the resources were in the nearby cave, you wouldn't have much reason to explore and make perhaps some other surprising discovery. While many caves broken down by size categories are the same, resources in them are random (more or less gold, etc), and a few are unique and very large.

I started annotating my own map, not wanting to be internet-spoiled. Over time (if you have the patience) as you see caves again and again, a sort of logic to their placement can help direct you. Edges of things. (not necessarily the impenetrable mountain barrier walls.) Cliffs in general. Usually one or two can be found in every grid square of the map. And as you "tech up" (only really feasible in the Open World format) a cave scanner helps direct you to them.

I did that particular early mission, but some later ones dealing with gathering even more resources... that I might want to use for my own construction - I won't take them. It's a semi-sandbox, and I don't need to do every mission in the list to have a good or interesting time in-game ;)

gold is a rare spawn.

keep hitting caves.

if you mined every single cave out in the play area (possible in one or two missions), and still not enough gold - build a thumper, it respawns ores.

If you locked yourself out of the thumper - mission fail, go back to orbit, start again, or do something else.

Thank you. I got it.
So far I've visited 5 caves and they all looked alike. So I became bored with them. I see on the internet map that there is a bear somewhere nearby one of the caves, but it's not exactly the discovery I would like to make on this stage of the game. I have no weapon. I'am glad that there are different caves in the game.
I understand that there is no need to complete every mission, but I thought that they can give me the basic understanding of game mechanics. Also I like when there is a story, purpose and so on. This game might not be exactly my cup of coffee after all. So far I am interested in development tree and tech progress. I will see if I can overcome lack of resources. I am not looking for challenges , rather for fun and engaging activities.

Thumper is t4, like top of the tree ultrahightech. This is not a solution for new players on beginning missions. Youd need literally hundreds of gold to build all the components anyway.

I like to make all 4 attachments (gold, copper, titanium, and platinum), and then I take the low level alteration bench with me to caves. It does not require electricity to take attachments off and put them on. I put on an attachment, mine all the ore of that type.... then I run back and swap to another attachment, and only mine out that ore. Then repeat. When I'm done I've stripped the whole cave bare, and have huge stacks of ore ready to go.

Sometimes I even bring a concrete furnace with me, and start the smelting of ores while I'm still mining out the other ores.

thats sad... I am t2 . I will try the alteration bench and one more cave.
