chicken coup question
Is the coup good to go outside generally? I mean is it ok in weather exposure ... or does it need to be in a building :)

thanks in advance to anyone that knows! Just trying to plan out what i need

I put mine inside my greenhouse, and I built the whole greenhouse inside a cave. I didn't want anything to happen to the chickens or the cows. They cost too much.

EDIT: I placed my chicken coup directly onto concrete floors. It didn't affect how it worked, the chickens still lay eggs.

yeah my bad, i wasn't clear .... i meant the actual 'coup' building/placeable thingy, not the chicken itself

Keep in mind chickens will wander off if not behind walls or on a leash

I occasionally find little "Kiwi" nests but haven't messed with them. Are these the way to get eggs out in the wild if we don't have a yard bird?

Must be a large cave since that chook house is way oversized!

I had an exposed chicken coop in the Volcanic area in Prometheus and it was fine during my entire stay there(around 40-60 hours). It looks like it's completely immune to weather, since not even a red level storm passing by caused it to need repairs.

Actually, it looks kinda teeny tiny in my greenhouse.

That's about as large as I want to make it right now, before I run into bug with how it figures out sheltered/not sheltered. The side I took the screenshot is mostly empty. I could put way more grow plots there.

And If I really wanted, I have a lot of extra space in this cave I could expand into. The ramps at the back end are so I can reach a single beehive. For some reason, this beehive doesn't spawn wandering bee swarms until I attack it. I'm not sure how close I can build to it until it becomes permanently agroed and spits out continuous bee bullets at me.

This cave is huge. And it's actually a side cave connected to an even larger cave.

This is the entrance. I had to add the gate first, then add the stone frames/floors later on. The door on the left side of the screenshot is the rear door to my player's house.

This is the view from the beginning of the side cave, with the gates open. As I said it's huge. This is a very common cave formation you will see rubberstamped repeatedly across the map.
