I take it you've never put up a 45 degree pole outside the C3 cave out of reach of the predators & observed the bears & boars getting swiped by the bear? Just shoot the bear & watch it unfold.
Not doubting you observed that but I have never seen animals interacting in that manner. Every now and then I see a deer or rabbit run if a predator is near but never saw them fighting. Of course I never gave them this special circumstance to fight either. Which lets be honest it shouldn’t take tricking the AI to get what should happen to happen. If you weren’t out of reach every one of those animals would be on you solely.
Prey will alert (red ! over their heads) and run from predators wandering around.
Predators will come to scavenge corpses. Kill a deer but don't skin it: lay in wait and watch. Great way to get a lot of fur. :)
I'd really like them to get rid of the stupid "you are fighting a bear, so now we are going to spawn in a wolf that will ALSO attack you" mechanic. You can actually see the wolf drop in. It's incredibly lame and unrealistic.
Yeah they kind of form an orderly queue underneath the pole and jockey for position right under you, the bear gets cheesed off and starts to attack anything in it's path. It's funny but one time I miscalculated how many arrows I had I was there quite some time before jumping off & running.
(I understood and noticed that predators come to scavenger dead corpses, but do they attack each others * predators/preys * ?)
1) The Alpha wolf kills not only wolves that passed by and are not part of the ‘horde’, but also ‘its own’ from the ‘horde’.
2) Bear cubs especially like to run not to Geyser, but to run around and kill everyone indiscriminately (constantly). Therefore, I have to get off my ‘installation’ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3056503208
and run around looking for them.
Why is it that predators and prey still seem to work together, rather then being adversaries? I've personally seen a Moa get angry at me (valid) and chase after me.
Only to have a wolf attack me as well. Once I went down, the moa and the wolf simply lounged around, and did nothing to each other. Why is this? Why is the prospector the only valid target for hostility for carnivorous creatures?
"But they're genetically modified and mutated."
Yes, they are indeed mutated and genetically modified. To breathe and process the atmosphere that they're now dealing with on their new planet. This is doubly so since the terraforming went off the rails. That does not mean that the wolf suddenly decided it wanted to eat leaves and grass.
Indeed, if that was the case, why do wolves eat the corpses of animals? And if that was ALL they ate, then there simply isn't enough carrion for all the wolves/bears.
So someone please, logically, explain to why wolves, bears, and other hostile creatures are only hostile to the player, and seem to completely ignore their prey species.
You're looking for a logical explanation for illogical actions. The logic flows from the AI that appears illogical but by its nature is only logic. I'd look to the code design and developers to explain the reason why the game logic is what it is. I've seen some predation in my play throughs but I use a mod that increases this. The illogical behavior to me is still present but balanced out by more of what I consider logical behavior. Much of the logic of Icarus is lost on me, including a space faring race dropped in the middle of nowhere "because they can" with only a rudimentary understanding of stone age tools. But this evolves into high tech age tools if I hit enough trees. I just try not to lose the forest for those trees. It's a fun game, over all. Just don't overthink it and enjoy being able to fit your buffalo into a 3' x 2' space nugget so you can shoot it into the pocket dimension until you need him again.
