Ofc the expansion is required, Its Been stated by the developers in every single post that this content is for Prometheus. To anyone that has played for more than a few hours Its rather easy to see that map is under the DLC..
This is beyond a non issue and honestly comes off pathetic. Not every tiny content drop needs a discount and the new frontier DLC has Been out for more than a year.
If you dont Wanna pay a tiny sum for a large amount of ADDITIONAL content to go with the Weekly free stuff, then thats on you
Yay for you having ample disposable income. Calling me pathetic for being frugal- very far right of you.

Interesting moment 00:43:00 and further
Economics aside, the game has a lot of DLCs and you can't come down on the devs for your not paying attention. There is a lot to keep track of but only owning the base game should simplify that greatly for you. Steam clearly labels DLC content as such.
My friend and I nearly always play together on Icarus, we also have our own Server.
I have every DLC because I love the game, and he only has 1 or 2 but none of the map ones.
We still played Styx together, because you only need the DLC when creating the Open World / mission. If you stop and want to continue anyone can start up the session again, doesn't matter if they have DLC.
Well, remember the graphics that told everyone what percentage made which choices? Like who played as John or Jane, and who let Wrex live, etc? Well, the fact is this...EA knows when you play, how long you play, what you do while playing, etc. So they knew that most people didn't even finish Andromeda. They also knew that most who did, uninstalled the game, and weren't playing a second time. This was not what they saw with the Original Trilogy, where most people did play the games over and over.
So the math told them creating DLC was going to cause them to lose money. Same for a sequel. Then, they re-released the OT in the form of Mass Effect Legendary Edition. It sold so well, the new Mass Effect is going to be a sequel of that trilogy. See, that's the thing. The company has to make money. The Devs don't work for free just as you don't, and the Electric company doesn't let you use the electricity for free.
So, new content is almost always going to cost more money. It's just the way it is. I was frankly very happy with all the DLC that came out for Mass Effect OT. I hope the next game isn't a woke flop like Andromeda, and sells so well, and is so popular, that we get tons of DLC.
If you can't afford it, wait for it to go on sale, later down the line. Nothing worth having is free.
I understand the point of your post, but in many cases the people who whine about DLC the most do _not_ work. They're little kids. To little kids, everything is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (by way of mom and dad), so they don't understand the concept of other people needing to make a living from their work.
This is the most /woosh response I've seen in awhile lol.
And why would that be? Because you think everything should be free? New content isn't free. If a game company is offering something free, it's being paid for somehow, like pay to win micro transactions.
What part of "X isn't free because it requires you to pay for Y DLC first" escaped you?
Show me ANY other game that's done this and labeled it as such and I'll /bow and apologize.
You won't find one.
All other games "free expansions" are for the base game and truly require no additional purchases.
Listing it as "An addition to the New Frontiers DLC" would've clearly indicated what was required. The use of the word "free" was a marketing technique, I get it, but in this case, quite misleading when paired with "Prometheus" because that's NOT the name of the expansion.
Look in the discord, on reddit, in this forum- I'm not the only one that installed the beta thinking we could try the new part of the map. Ah wait, I know- we're all idiots, right?
An accurate portrayal of what was required, by not calling it free and listing the expansions actual name would've saved me an hour of troubleshooting trying to figure out wtf was going on until I was in game and just happened to look at the right of the screen and saw "Prometheus" above the NF expansion.
Seeing as you like semantics.
OK, obviously I'm going to have to talk really slow with this one. Not too quick on the uptake.
OK, let me draw you a picture. If I go to a restaurant, and they have an advert for a free desert if you buy a specific entree, is that desert not free? Of course it is. Normally you have to pay for the desert.
This is a free expansion for the New Frontiers DLC. Since I already own that DLC, and bought it before any such announcement was made, it is definitely free for me. Just because you don't own the DLC, does not mean the expansion isn't free. It is.
Think about your lack of logic. What if the New Frontiers DLC was free. You own the game, and of course, would be happy to get a new DLC...FOR FREE. Now imagine telling your friend that you got a free DLC, but he says, "It's NOT free. You had to buy the game first."
Just because you have to buy something first, doesn't mean the free part isn't free. This is done all the time in business. Buy this, and get a free upgrade. Buy that, and get fries for free. You can buy the burger, but they have a promotion...buy the chicken sandwich instead and get a second one for free.
Just because a purchase is required, doesn't mean the free part isn't free.
It's a free expansion of the paid DLC. Just as a free DLC would require you to first purchase the game.
Just when I think the entitlement on Steam can't get worse, you say, "Hold my beer!" (Although judging by your attitude you're probably not even old enough to drink beer).
So, by that logic, free content isn't free if you have to buy content first to access the free content...So most pay to play games that release free content actually never release free content because you have to pay for the game in order to access it. See how cracked your logic is?
Null sector wasn't listed as free for New Frontiers but for the Prometheus map and no, I don't have to know what that is. Again, it wasn't just me.
Content locked behind a paywall isn't a new concept folks. I have no issue with that. It just would've been nice to have had it accurately described so I didn't waste an hour trying to figure out why tf I couldn't access Null Sector content.
"Free map expansion if you've already purchased or when you purchase the New Frontiers DLC" is how it should've been described.
