Having a sulfur deep mining drill and using tree sap and sulfur to make epoxy is the default way to get epoxy. Simple and easy, and much easier to collect than bone.
Bone to epoxy is sort of just the extra free trickle you get from hunting. I honestly don't think it's a good way to focus for epoxy. However if that's how you want to proceed, Mammoths are only found in the swamps on Prometheus. No arctic versions there.
In the western swamps I think the NW area has the highest number of spawn locations, and the eastern swamp it's the NE section. Edit: Bring a motar and pestle with you instead of carrying all that tusk weight back.

One of these pictures will be labeled something like this (Creature spawn zones with levels and ratios.)
On it you can see approximately where some animals spawn and at what level they will be. Here you can see where to spawn mammoths or other animals you need.
3) I personally encountered a mammoth literally at the entrance to the swamp biome in K7 Prometheus.
I wish I knew about that earlier. I quit cutting down trees. Don't ask how I get wood. But look, I'm on open world, and my server started looking like crap because without the trees, the landscape is barren, and the land in the distance looks even worse. Up close, the game is beautiful. Quite realistic looking IMHO. But long distance views, without the trees on the landscape, look really bad. So I had to find a solution.
I wish they would put it in the lore that a side affect of the failed terra forming is that things grow to maturity really fast, then age normally from there. Would explain our tames becoming adults so fast, right?
Imagine them having 10 stages of tree growth. Every day, after cutting down the trees, you see them grow back. First you see the tiny saplings, then bigger and bigger saplings...maybe 4 sizes...then the rest are full trees. Cut them down early and you get less wood. But the trees could take around 21 days to reach full maturity. 21 day our time, not game days. That could be based on a person playing 2 to 3 hours every day. So if you play a lot longer, they would take less time in real life, but about the same in game time.
That's my hope.
Anyway, yeah the area I chose for my base was very nice looking when I chose the location. Now it is depressing to look at. So I'll be moving to a location with a lot more trees.
