The mission is "Ashlands: Retrieval" so maybe I'm not supposed to progress into the ice sheet at this point (the ice sheet isn't called "Ashalnds"). I'll also assume that in open world, this tunnel is opened already. It's somewhat ambiguous in the mission however, and there is no indication that progressing past the cave in is not possible at this point.
I 'accidentally' found the cave that leads to the ice sheet while on the mission, but couldn't get past it, hence the post. The first mission doesn't involve going to the ice sheet, so the cave in is impassable.
I still hadn't progress well, stuck at 26% so I had no idea.
Lay down trail beacons to the Outpost and the mission is complete. No need to leave the Ashlands.
Read the post above. If you're doing ashlands retrieval mission then you aren't supposed to be going into the icesheets. It's not part of the mission area.
Are you talking about the cave up on the side of the mountain with the broken metal walkways leading to it? The cave where there's a ghost outline of a small object on the rockface?
You open that with explosives, which you find in a crate below one of the broken sections of the walkway. The esplosives are a quest item, you don't have to craft anything.
