Cave is Extremely Dark
Hi All. Need some help. Not sure why but when I enter a cave it is completely pitch black. I've been playing with gamma but nothing is working so i can see. Are there any settings I may be missing. Caves are totally unplayable for me right now.

I'm playing on the lowest graphic and didn't find such problem. Try to counter with a torch. While fighting cave worms, I believe worms are slightly bio-luminescent and can be spotted on time even without a light source.

The caves are working as intended then?

They are supposed to be dark, bring your own light.

If you would prefer to cheat the system then just turn shadows to low

Thanks Guys! Standing Torches it is!

Make sure you know what your drop keys are too! Lighting a torch and then dropping it keeps it lit and they are cheap to make (unless your in the desert).

Turn Shadows and Shading down to low. Caves are like daylight until in game night. During the night it still gets dark and a floor torch is advised. But during in game day no torches required.

Try to use Firearrows, they stick long and provide more light as a dropped torch.

To get as much light as possible set:
SHADOWS: low
EFFECTS: low
SHADING: low

Generally once you clear out the worms, you can use a torch to find the ore node, then drop it on the ground to mine. (Funny there is no option to hold a light source in the off-hand, since apart from the bow, most things are single handed)
If there is water, then hold the torch, line up the node and just switch back and forth from pick to torch to find where to hit. It is slow but that's all we have in solo. Fire pits and standing torches I find don't give enough light which is strange because a regular torch seems much brighter than a standing torch.
Then if you have a buddy who plays you can always designate a torch bearer :)

that is exactly what i do. works fast and sufficient. a pain to switch sometimes, but effective.
