killed a bison but cant skin it?

i killed a bison pretty easily but could not skin it. i had a stone knife and switched to my bone knife (that i used at that point of time as a defense weapon instead of skinning) and still could not skin it. what lvl knife do i need to skin a bison? iron? steel? i just started the drop and saw it an figured i would get a good bit of meat, fur, leather, and bones from it early in the drop. plus i missed the other time i saw one to kill it. i know it seems like a noob question but i figure it better to ask than not to.

Yeah you need a better knife.. FYI the orbit purchased one works on them:)

Some of the creatures requires better knife to skin, like Buffalo and Elephant. According to my experience, Iron Knife and MXC Knife were sufficient to skin them.

awesome. figured it had to be either iron or steel. just wanted to confirm it. i'm a slight casual player so i am not as fast as people on all day(nothing wrong with that by no means) and had yet to go to a mine for iron. at least any new people starting the game can see this and get a lil extra knowledge b4 they see a bison/elephant in the future of their gaming on this specific game. ty for the quick answers.

i figured i would need to research and craft the knife from the station but lack the funds for it atm. need to do the water jug and oxy tank first and then i am heading to the knives and bows since i am hunting spec'd. ty for that tip too.
