house on fire
my house randomly set on fire. literally out of nowhere. i had logged out while food was cooking and the weather was nice. solo btw. when i logged back in, a storm was blowing and my house was on fire. lost everything. i genuinely don't think i'm going to keep playing past the free trial period. maybe once this game has been patched enough, i will give it another chance during another free trial.

i am not going to be paying for yet another incomplete game using their customer base as bug testers. start PAYING people to do that and support workers

Sorry, come again.

You left food cooking, which since you're a new player, I assume means you had a fire going. An open flame campfire. The fire can set things on fire not only in the square it's in but the square above it. If you had a sloping roof above the fire, then it set that roof section on fire.

In real life, do you build campfires inside buildings and then leave them unattended? Just curious. I mean, if this is a thing you do in real life and have never set anything on fire, you're very lucky.

Can you imagine talking to your insurance company about your house burning down. Claims guy, "So you said you had a, a campfire in your house, and had some food cooking on it, and you left for the night, and in the morning when you come home your house was on fire. me "Ya".

Credit to the OP, the game doesn't make much indication that you can set things on fire on accident. Many other survival games of a similar feel don't have that sort of mechanic at all, or at least only when done deliberately with flame weapons.

You said there was a storm. Lightning could have struck the house.

bold of you to assume it was a campfire.
it was the big square stone firepit. i feel i had every reason to expect it to keep the fire contained.
in real life do you have to get oxygen out of stones? in real life if there isn't enough oxygen to breathe co you think fires could even work? quite frankly, we should have to use the oxygen rocks as part of any fire process and fire literally should not spread on this world.

a little more like "hello stove company, you said this object keeps the fire inside" i didn't use a campfire. i used the big stone pit. and there was nothing going on when i logged off my solo game.

Not enough oxygen? What are you on about? There IS enough oxygen on Icarus to breathe. Unfortunately there is also enough toxins in the air to kill you quite quickly.

Yes. This. Just turn lightning off. I am going to do the same if another one hits my house and burns it down. The strikes are a little (lot) too accurate. It should be fairly rare.

You can turn lightning off? I've played hundreds of hours and didn't know that. Must be a new setting.

Or you build a lightning rod to prevent the strike.

then why are there contemporary animals? the point i was making is that this is a video game, my only ability to expect a thing is if the game tells me i should expect the thing. there are plenty of survival crafting games out there that don't punish this hard on the easy map.

There are specific references to low oxygen availability. (Look at charcoal.)

Also, it'd be really hard to explain anything about the game 02 economy that way...

The animals are putatively adapted, game does tell you that.

Why they're adapted to zerg rush radar units is a question...

The lore contained there is canon.
"Terraforming derailed catastrophically, lacing the oxygen atmosphere with toxins like cyanide, and decimating native life across vast regions of the planet."

Yeah, probably a lightning strike. Early on your best bet would be to get a Fire Whacker to keep either on hand or near the base in case of lightning strikes. An unfortunate and somewhat rare thing for it to hit your house. That said, this is a hostile survival game with multiple threats that can tear down your base. Go AFK long enough and your house will be gone to storms, even if you aren't near it. Would recommend not going AFK without a companion to watch over things while you're gone. You can always continue the mission.

Regardless of such, that's some terrible luck. Condolences.
