Icarus

After the last patch (03-05-2024), the game doesn't start anymore [NOT SOLVED AT ALL]
Just updated the game in Steam (no choice for me, I had to update it).
Yesderday, everything was OK (without the patch).
Now, When I launch the game, it freezzz on the "Rocket Werks" first screen. The intro doesn't start...
I rebooted the PC (the microsoft way to try to solve issue), update NVidia drivers, rebooted again....
Nothing to do... Icarus doesn't to start :(

[EDIT 1 - SOLVED] It seems that the Steam "Overlay" (in the General Game options) is the source of the issue. I desactivated it and the game can be launched now.

[EDIT2 weeks later - SOLVED but not really]
In fact, it's many not linked to the Steam "Overlay". Since the last time, I experimented 3 times the issue...
The "Verify game files" solved the 2nd time
For the last time (today), I launched the game this morning without issue. But this afternoon, not possible to launch it... When I launched it I watch a video on youtube... So I closed all applications, relaunched the "Verify game files". But still not working...
So, I re-boot the computer... (you know with micro$oft... the reboot can sometime solve the issue...). Why a fresh PC rebooted, Icarus works fine!
My conclusion: Icarus is like me: don't really like micro$oft...
PS: I'm not using mods (Icarus is able to support modding?? I was not aware and I'm very impressed! It's definitly a very nice game)
[EDIT 03-Jun-2024] Nop... the bug is still here....
[EDIT 04-Jun-2024] Today it seems ok..... I don't know why this ramdom bug let me play today....

Try a "Verify game files", sometimes steam updates do not seem to be applying correctly, leaving corrupt PAK files.

I have already tried that option, any other solution?
1) This is possible when using mods. Every week after the update people are constantly complaining about crash problems because of them.
1.1) Verify game in Steam.

1.2) If you have previously used mods, then in such cases they suggest: uninstall Icarus on Steam; delete the directory in which the game was installed, making sure that there are no extraneous files left in it; reinstall Icarus via Steam.
[Reason]: During verification, the Steam client does not check for the presence of remaining extraneous files (mods, mods folder or other files that are no longer needed), which can lead to problems of this kind. They can provoke Unreal crash.

2) DX11 + Fullscreen
2.1) For starters, I recommend setting the OS swap file size to FIXED SIZE 32 GB (this means that when setting ‘Custom Size’ -> ‘Initial Size’ and ‘Maximum size’ must be same -> 32768). The paging file must be on the SSD (system partition C:). It is advisable to have at least 32 GB of physical RAM.
Here, the problems will not be in Icarus, but in Unreal 4, on which the game is built, the thing is that this game engine loves a lot of RAM and, oddly enough, large swap files.
If you are playing on DX12 and you are starting to crash or have another problem, then be sure to put a 32GB swap file. Or try switching to DX11 (considerably less memory consumption).
First link from Google (do not download any files, just a picture for visual aid)

Any word on full controller support?

There are some days where Icarus refuse to launch... A very frustrating bug on the game.... or on microsoft or.... I donct know... A random crap bug

@Dev Team: if you don't care about this bug, please, can you send me your code, I'll debug it and solve it. Thanks

I’m gathering here as well, Icarus has been patched to death.

It’s no longer playable on DirectX 12,

and with DirectX 11, there are constant stutters and poor FPS.

With DirectX 12 and DLAA, the game crashes because the VRAM gets filled endlessly,
already reaching 22GB+ at the start.

Other games like Cyberpunk 2077, Atomic Heart, Dead Space, Chernobylite work without problems.

0.1) If you have Unreal crash, it would be nice to attach the text of this error (preferably several).

1) DX12 itself consumes more Ram because it is a 'multithread render'. All questions to Microsoft who made this trash.
Therefore, as I wrote above: DX11 + exclusive Fullscreen.
DLSS itself can also be a source of crash.
1.1) All of the games listed are either console ports or much simpler games with simpler graphics. This is Unreal 4 ‘well implemented’.
Here you need a minimum of 32GB, and 64GB is better for playing at high settings, even on FullHD.
Or if 32GB you need to increase the swapfile. I also wrote exactly how above.

1.2) {System : Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 21H2 (19044.4412)

You have 64GB, so there shouldn't be any problems.
1.3) I hope you checked the stability of Ram using TestMem5 {considering what frequency it operates at}.

1.4) With this amount of Ram, you can even disable Unreal TextureStreaming {lag generator}
Point 1) and below.

It works fine for me. (44-45GB consumption Ram)

of course, the RAM has been tested and works without any problems.

before the patch it also ran with the same settings

This is just really bad work from Rocketswerkz

If this is 'bad work' why is this problem for you and not everyone else?
Also why on WIN7, 5800X3D; 64GB 16-19-19-39 1.4V; 6570XT Nitro; DX11 exclusive Fullscreen, FullHD; Setting High + distance view-maximum
I don't have any problems? Including when disabling Unreal TextureStreaming when Ram consumption goes up to 44-45GB (I mostly play this way).
I haven't noticed any crash for very many months {years and a half so}. (recently there was a problem for everyone because of missing aluminum texture, but that's fixed now).

PS As I wrote above, if you have Unreal crash then post the text of the error (preferably several pieces).
LukyLuke Jun 4, 2024 @ 2:43pm
hummm.... Today is ok..... let's see tomorow
Don't you notice any 'strangeness' in what's happening?
1) First you disabled Steam Overlay and the problem, albeit temporarily, was solved. The point is that Icarus has nothing to do with Steam Overlay, that is, the problem was not with it. {try updating Steam Client?}
1.1) Now you wrote that the game is working again, but no one has done anything with Icarus in recent days. On June 3 you had a problem, today you don’t. But no one updated the game during this time, not even hotfix.

2) To begin with such complaints, you must specify: PC Config; game setting; OS (subversion).
2.1) Over the past year, complaints of a similar nature have already been encountered. As it turned out later, owners of old GPUs (1050ti and earlier) had them, which were usually eliminated by rollback GPU Drivers.

PS Could it be something else?
For example: I just tried to launch the Steam Client and it froze at the last stage and won’t start. The thing is that yesterday I completely blocked access to the microphone and camera in my KIS antivirus. After I unlocked access, bumps! And Steam launched and I wrote this post.
PSS For example, the game Soulmask was recently released on Unreal engine 4, so it turned out that if you have Comodo antivirus, it causes a crash.

{Same problem here. I've submitted a report.

EDIT: Video driver updated - still no dice.
EDIT 2: Installed latest Visual C++ Redist - x86 and x64 - rebooted. Tried starting game. Still crashing to desktop.}
{Came back after talking with Devs. It was Comodo Antivirus. That's usually the one issue I don't have - they're very good at NOT blocking games. They caught me off-guard with this one and since I almost never have antivirus problems with the games, I completely missed it. I'm getting old XD}

PSSS In the last few days during which Icarus started working for you again, for example, the following could have happened: you updated the databases of your antivirus and it began to detect something differently.
