Mission Dynamics Question
Greetings! I just recently got back into the game after not playing for two years. There's lots that has changed, and the google results on the information I'm searching for is confusing:

Scenario for the PRESENT state of the game: I start a mission, and my BF joins the prospect. He has to get off because of X,Y,Z, but I stay and finish the mission. What happens when he comes back to the computer?

Does he just pick up where he left off when he logged out? Does the mission progress update to a server somewhere and he gets credit for completion and gets to make his way back to his spaceship to get rewards? Is his character just stuck in character limbo forever?

When I last played Permadeath was still a thing, and that character is LONNNG gone. Ha.

I appreciate any insight into this. :)

In your example, you started the Prospect so you are the host. Your friend joins and will only ever get credit for things completed while there. So if the friend is not connected they will get nothing cause there is no central server to report to and communicate through. They will not be able to rejoin the Prospect later because you - the host - have already completed it and the Prospect is closed out on your PC.

So in the future if you intend to try and match progress together you need to make sure both of you are present when completing the objectives and closing out the prospect. So if you have more play time you can start the prospect, build up the necessary base to craft the gear required (plus a set for your friend), and then when ready to head out and complete the objectives wait for your friend to join. While waiting you can also find and extract exotics, but don't send them to orbit just yet.

When your friend joins complete the mission objectives together and send any exotics you've collected to orbit to make sure you both get credit for the exotics as well. When closing out the Prospect make sure the friend leaves on their dropship first - completely back to the orbital screens so his PC registers he's left properly - and then you ride your dropship out to close out the Prospect on your PC.

The same goes for any Open World/Outpost map you want to run. Only the people actively connected will get credit for Operations, Exotics, or SMPL3 jobs.

I am a solo player.
An interesting situation...
I find it funny that you kept playing and finished the mission after he left... :D

I am sure someone will arrive to explain it.

I found something on reddit but it is showing "2years ago"...
I found it to be interesting though...

No, if your friend (host) completes the mission and leaves, you can resume the same prospect as your own host -- and everything will have been as you both left it. If your host completed mission and left, the mission will be complete for you as well and you can extract at your own leisure and reap the same rewards.

According to this^ It appears when he returns the mission will be done.
He just has to leave, using the drop ship, before the timer runs out.
However, the game has gone through a lot of changes since then...

Please post what happened here so that I may learn from it. :)

Hahaha!...:steamlaughcry:

Oh man!... :D
Oh yeah...@@
That's terrible...:steamfacepalm:

:steamlaughcry:

I have learned that in multiplayer sessions the "host" should leave last to close out the mission.

Question:
How does the host know if all the prospectors, that had joined, left using the drop ship?

I posted this as well on reddit, so I missed the responses here. I found a workaround. I'm okay with delaying completion at this point:

Thanks! That's an idea. I'll try that out with another character to see what happens. (I haven't completed the mission. He had to leave due to unforeseeable circumstances, and I wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up for him or his character.)

EDIT: A heads up in case anyone is looking for this in the future: On the new character named "TESTING", I jumped into one mission, returned to character select, and then jumped into another one. When I returned to the character selection screen on TESTING, I was able to resume mission progress on either mission on "Load".

(I'm sure you have tons of hours in the game so this isn't necessarily something that will be viable to you as information, but this might help someone who is new to the game and is worried about messing up progression for various reasons.)

I didn't keep playing, it was intended as a "what if" scenario (even though he did expressly tell me to go ahead and finish the mission when we both were under the impression that character play was limited to one iteration of the character -- It didn't feel right, cause he worked just as hard as I did to get all the Iron and stuff we needed.). He's presently away because his work has him away, and these lovely southern storms we have right meow took out his internet right as we were going to defeat the big bad.

And to address what you were saying, there's some confusing and misleading information out there. What you quoted (as you said) was two years ago, and a lot has changed in the last two years... Especially since I first played the game AGES ago prior to it's official launch. I was trying to find something recent (Last 6ish months to a year on the google search filter).

This is fantastically detailed and helps majorly with some of the other questions I had floating around in my brain. Thank you so very much. :)
