I imagine there may be subtle differences like more O2 and water capacity...
I am not sure...
Let us know if there is a resource capacity difference between suits :)
There may be missions that fit the Fermi or Duo better than the Hark...
Though I don't have much experience at all the suits;
I created a thread to make the "food slot" suits more useful considering that some players thought the food slots were useless due to suffering from spoiled food...

The HARK suit is in my opinion the best suit so just grab it and move on. No special hidden stats or abilities to worry about in the other suits.
It partially goes back to before they rearranged the workshop. The suits and gear were spread out all over place and linked together on the same page. So for example to get to the bows you'd have to research like at least two different suits and a module. The armor was behind a different suit, the O2 canister tucked behind a backpack and the campfire, etc. It was a hot mess. :)
I think some of the other suits were originally intended to have other slots to differentiate themselves than just the water/oxygen/food - like an optics slot for night vision or HUD navigation. I remember seeing an old screenshot of the inventory but can't seem to find it now.
I think there may have been other plans too involving RPG type stats which got dropped as well that the suits might have originally been planned to enhance. Here's one of the designers talking about that in one of Behind the Scenes Icarus videos: https://youtu.be/jbEo-T_TX0M?t=243
So maybe the envirosuits were originally intended to be the sort of base character class you could change between prospects with different abilities and stats. It got dropped though so now we have a bunch of suits that don't amount to much and the HARK reigns supreme ;)
They were arranged in a different order at game launch. The current order is just bizarre to first time players who never saw the old order.
As Rekal said, just go with the Hark suit. It's all around the best single suit at that level.
The only suits worth going after above the Hark are basically the 2 red exotic suits.
The haulier is for hoarder/packrats. Insane carrying capacity, and space for 4 suit modules. You can add modules to increase inventory capacity even further (which I do). I use this suit 99% of the time now. I love it.
The other red exotic suit is the single best suit for dealing with hot and cold environments. Unlike earlier suits, it doesn't have negative penalties for the opposing temps. The previous suits that protected against cold made you more susceptible to heat, and vice versa. The red exotic suit would allow you to walk out of an arctic environment straight into a scorching desert and you wouldn't have any huge debuffs in either biome. If you combine it with the red exotic modules for guarding against frostbite and overheating, you can pretty much ignore the penalties of the most extreme biomes.
If you're going to go for the red exotic suits, you might as well unlock one of the early environmental suits with the small heat or cold buffs, depending on what biome you spend more time in. The current tech tree will sort of force you to buy one of those suits anyways, in order to reach the red exotic suits.
