questions about missions and saves
So say I started a mission now knowing my friends will want to help me with it later but they're not around right now.

Later I am busy but they want to play, there is no way for them to continue the mission I started unless I hosted the mission right?

Now I am not trying to have a server always running, but more access to hosting the save/mission as needed. If person 1 starts the mission and has the host save locally, can they share the file/folder to others or will that break the file (is something in the save file unique where no other player can use it)

Mission completion only counts for players connected and in game when the mission is completed. So passing around a save file is not only a hassle trying to keep a shared version up to date it isn't going to help anyone either. You can do it though. Each saved mission prospect has a record of who started the prospect but it doesn't stop anyone from loading and joining the prospect.

If you want to play on the same prospect at different times your best bet is to Open World on a dedicated server everyone has access to. Otherwise if you're running missions you should try to get everyone on at the same time. Or just run them solo.

So if I started a mission now and played for an hour, then stopped, started it up again tomorrow and had you join me.

Are you able to get rewards from completing that mission if you and I are on when the mission is complete? Or will you never be eligible because you were not there right as I started it?

I am mainly trying to figure out if this workaround will work for this game as it has worked for Enshrouded. My brother created the world on that game and would always have to host it. If he wast home then we couldn't play. So we setup this application called SyncThing and you can designate folders and files to regularly sync between people. So his world save folder and mine were synced and now he can host or I can because we have the same world save files.

If we were playing any of these games daily id be all for a dedicated server but that's not the case.

The extra player only needs to be there for mission completion. Basically when the rewards popup on your screen. Same as drilling for exotics. When you send them up you get a reward pop-up and only the players connected when that appears get the reward.

Your file syncing should work perfectly fine. You'd only want to use it for your Open World prospect though unless you were both willing to hold off on completing missions until you were both present.

The folder you want to sync would be - C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\AppData\Local\Icarus\Saved\PlayerData\[SteamUserID#]\Prospects\

Or maybe just specify your Open World or Outpost prospects in that folder.

Again though, if you complete operations on that Open World the player not connected won't get credit.
