Water powered devices in the arctic
Just wondered if there's a way to get water to devices like the cement mixer, sink etc in the arctic? In the easier arctic areas there's water sources in caves that can be used, but in the harder areas this isn't the case, so i wondered if there's any devices i'm not aware of or tricks for getting water? I know we have the new water barrel now, but filling it any ideas?

With the new stuff we have available it may be possible...

Maybe if the new "metal rain reservoir" were placed inside a warmed area in a shelter...
place some ice in it; allow it to melt---> then connect it to the cement mixer.

However,
Just to ask, why do you need water for the cement mixer?
The cement mixer can be used without a water connection.
Is it a PPR (Personal Play Rule) that you like to use during play?

I might use that one :)
Appears challenging...restricting the use of the cement mixer if there is no water connection.

Ooh interesting idea! I wonder if it'll work? I will have to try... thanks! :)

Good question! I usually use water as i think it speeds it up and i'm addicted to making concrete :steamhappy: But actually i just used it more as an example of a water device. But at my base in the arctic, i would like to get the sink to work. On a side note... do you know how to catch a polar bear? you dig a hole in the ice, and put a pea next to the hole and when the polar bear comes along for a pee you kick him in the ice hole :steamhappy: (thanks to my grandad for telling me that on lol)

This is how the rain reservoir has always worked - place ice in and it acts like fuel as it melts and fills up. This function is mentioned in the patch notes as part of the new Metal Rain Reservoir that can be connected to the water networks. I do not believe a heated enviroment is needed:

Metal Rain Reservoir (T3)

Collects rainwater, can defrost ice into water, stores more than the Rain Reservoir (T2), and can be connected to water networks to act as a storage device.
Also in case you were unaware, you can collect ice (or clear snow off your roof) with a shovel without having to root around looking for ice chunks to pick up by hand.

This is very helpful, thank you. I've never used the rain reservoir before so appreciate the explanation... and the shovel tip too!

I just tried the rain reservoir in the arctic and it's perfect! Just by placing it on the snow, it automatically starts converting the snow to water which can then be piped to any water using device. Thanks again for the tip :steamhappy:

Osmosis... through metal; Ok I guess :)

I have noticed a lot of "short cuts" lately...

lol yes, it does seem like a bit of a shortcut. I would have thought that it would need to be electric powered in order to melt the ice?

A fire near the Metal Rain Reservoir should be enough or inside a small warmed shelter would be more immersive.

I thought the mechanics for the arctic would be more in context with "arctic" weather conditions.

It's cold in the arctic.
Things should freeze outside...

Cough...

Cough...

water...:p2blue:

I guess i'm a bit biased towards automation. So an electrically heated reservoir wouldn't require maintenance and a warmed shelter would require manually bringing ice to it from outside. Yes! i also wondered how the reservoir can melt snow and keep it liquid? Newton would have a field day on icarus :steamhappy:

Edit: I logged back in today and noticed that the reservoir on the snow now requires me to put ice from my freezer in it or wait for it to snow. I don't mind that.

Don't know if you've found it yet, but in Tier 4 there is a water bore. Which can be used on Geysers to produce water.

I've seen it but didn't know how to use it, thanks!
