Lightning Rods
what is the point of having lightning rods? at no time are they hit by lightning, that ive seen. my buildings always take damage during a flash storm, and they have lightning rods EVERYWHERE. Also can you lessen the "strength" of flash storms? my fps STOPS! i wasnt blessed with a super massive pc

I do see them affect lightning strikes, however they are also kinda weak and blow up by default. I'm not a big fan.

You can place them over your wood structures to prevent the lightning from starting a fire. The storm exposure effects aren't changed by them - just the chance of fire. If your structures made of something fire proof they don't really serve a purpose for your base.

All the chip damage your base takes during storms is considered "Wind" Damage so bonuses to wind resistance will lower the damage per chip. The building Tier number indicates what level of storm is required to actually suffer that "Wind" damage. So a Tier 3 wood structure takes wind damage from weaker storms than the Tier 6 stone structure.

Now why would you build wood when you can put up a fireproof stone building? Some folks like the look better. They want their log cabin! The lightning rod makes them lightning proof, and talents plus the new bees wax reinforcement bonus gives the wood higher HP and better wind resistance than Stone. So you can have a pretty sturdy wood house now. The reinforced wood house will take damage from more storm levels, but with up to 75% wind resistance each chip hit does less damage than even stone buildings take and with double the stone HPs it may need repairing less. There's a talent that increases their HP by up to 500% so they last a bit longer.

thank you both for your replies. yeah id love my log cabin too, and with the new wood upgrades i might just do that. i personally dont recall lightning even striking my LR's though. i couldve missed it...but after those storms especially, ive repaired a lot of damage. again, thanks for your input(s)

I don't use them. They are one hit items and therefore pretty useless. Storms, however, do not affect my frame rate or game performance.

I would not mind if some storms lasted longer. Some of the storms in the desert areas last quite a long time. I would not mind seeing this in the other areas. Rain does not last long enough for the most part. The weather effects in Icarus are really good, though. They really nailed the weather portion of this game.
