Throwing a torch
It may have been a YouTube video with an older version of Icarus, but the player entered a cave a threw his torch further into the cave which made it easier to see the worms. Is that not possible now? Thanks!

Are you sure it wasn't a flare arrow? Those go far and light up the place nicely for a while.
Signal arrow is green. The torch, like any object, can be thrown away, but it will fall next to you.

No, it was definitely a torch, and he definitely threw it with his hand. I'm pretty sure it was an older version of Icarus cause he carried it in his hand. I've tried and can't get a lit torch in my hand.

That sounds like the early launch version of icarus. At the time of game launch, there was no inventory slot for light items. It was pretty frustrating.

If you want to see far, the best early game thing to make is the biofuel lantern. Gives a cone of forward light, but be warned that it's mounted on your hip, so some actions with tools or weapons cause one of your arms to move in front of it. This can include holding a bow, with an arrow knocked.

Skip tier 4 flashlights, they are almost useless unless you're put it on the hotbar and select it from there. You end up holding it reversed in an overhand grip (head of flashlight next to the heel of your palm/little finger). Works great that way, put it in the light slot at your waist, and it's basically worthless.

No, you can definitely do it. I just did it yesterday. have the torch lit in hand, then open inventory and right click to open the drop down menu, and select drop. presto, lit torch on the ground. Im going to experiment to see if it will catch things on fire.

It absolutely does start fires if you drop it.

If you drop the torch or hold in again a flammable thing, fires will ensue.

Remember forest fires are not your friend.
1) Fighting a forest fire is pointless.
2) You need to save during the fire by exiting in the menu and loading again. The forest fire does not save in savegame.

Ive stopped forest fires a couple times by creating a firebreak around them. Harvest all the bushes so the fire has nowhere to go, then let it burn itself out.
