What is the purpose of worm scales?

The description says, "an item with endless uses" but I cannot find a single one. There are still plenty of blueprints left for me to unlock, but looking through the tech tree, I can't find anything that requires worm scale. Is the description supposed to be sarcastic?
I also can't find any use for the poison sacks. Not even the items with the word "poison" in their name use them.

the poison sacks are used for fishing and the worm scales can't do anything with those. i know it's stupid that say that the worm scales have endless uses. what a joke

You have to complete the mission Unearthed: research on Olympus to unlock the blueprints that use the scales&poison sacks(except for some fishing lures, which can just be unlocked like normal)

Unearthed: research unlocks the caveworm arrows, bow, knife and spear. These all inflict poison damage on enemies and are pretty powerfull overall.

the real joke is someone commenting when they actually don't know what they are talking about XD

Yeah. All the people who play nothing but outpost or open world literally have NO IDEA what they're missing by not playing any of the missions. There are a ton of extra recipes that you can only unlock by playing specific missions.

It's kinda harsh to claim that someone has no idea what they're talking about if the only way to find the use for worm scales through gameplay is to finish one of the last missions available.

Unlock missions are not very common. I've only played missions and the only thing I've unlocked so far is target dummies.
