Travel time is one of the downsides of running Operations on an Open World map versus dropping for a normal mission prospect. The mission requires about 10-30 minutes of build up for gear, but it starts you relatively near the objectives. The Operations require 10-30 minutes of travel time because the objectives are spread out across the entire map.
I even suggested maybe making teleporters but they are extremely expensive, maybe limit the # you can have and/or what you can take through them like other games.. plenty they could do.
Another option would be to use a craftable at each location, calculate the time needed to make the trip at a walking pace, and then advance the time from one home to another. Almost as if you went to sleep in one location, and woke up in another. Since we can already skip time by sleeping, I don't see this would be a game breaking mechanic.
I understand it's a remainder from their old design in terms of the missions. But doesnt make it less annoying and i hope they make some changes on that.
You can look up lists of materials needed on sites like icarus intel. Some of the mission designs are kind of stupid. You don't send someone trekking halfway around a mountain and then tell them "surprise! you needed to bring other stuff. so sorry". I just consider icarus intel to be a sort of mission briefing we should be getting at the start of the mission. It's perfectly fine to throw curveballs at us after the mission starts, but there should be more concrete briefings on a lot of missions.
That's not really true though. Many of the mission intel shows new stuff you need to do when you finisehd the first stuff. You couldnt have known before hand, and in regards tot he lore justification of not having fast travel. That's really irrelevant. It's a game write around it to make it more fun for the players.
what does this mean..? does and infrastructure need to exist? Maybe we have to build it ourselves.. I've played tons of games with portals and/or fast travel and it always just made sense I never questioned whether there was an infrastructure for it lol.
In my comment I think fast travel/teleport should be a thing but it should be complex and expensive to make but not impossible.. maybe you have to make several different components like: a room/platform, a power supply, the portal itself..
But in order to keep the game balanced this could be a very end game build. It could require a lot of fuel. And the transport pod could also degrade with enough uses.
That being said, it would be a great opportunity to add oil extraction in the deserts and some sort of refinery.
I stopped playing because of this, I like the game but spending hours just to travel is beyond annoying. Every other major survival game has some sort of travel, vehicles, flying mounts, kites, even ziplines.
No matter how much lipstick you put on it with weekly updates the game will always be somehow crippled by this.
Hopefully they will come to their senses and implement something if not it's just another broken shelved game.
A little doodad with a power input/output display (plugged into the power network) would be SUPER handy, especially on larger bases. A method to build significantly longer power wires would be nice, if they had a material cost for the longer cables I doubt anyone would complain.
