Open World is a new mode that the game was not and is not optimized for. Every change you make to the map is recorded and requires CPU time to check whether you can see the change or not while playing. The more changes you make on an Open World map the slower it will get. The other game modes that were in place before Open World was introduced do not suffer from this problem. At least not in a noticeable way.
Again, my speculation but it seems to hold true. You weren't suffering from slow down while you collected all the resources and built up your base. It was only after spending enough time and making enough changes by collecting all those resources that things started to slow down.
Outpost mode does not have this issue because it does not save any flora or mineral voxel changes. The map respawns on each map load. So the only save file data is your base. This is where you go when you want to build a massive base.
Mission mode does not run into the issue because every map is pristine and unchanged to start with and there is a timer which urges people to finish the objectives and leave. So you're not generally spending enough time to make changes on the map to cause the slow down. Collecting purple exotics in missions is faster than waiting for the open world exotic respawn mechanic.
What can you do? Not much, just know it's not just you. Maybe they will rework how their map data is saved and checked which will give your FPS back. In the mean time you can switch to Outpost to build the fancy base, and switch to missions for exotics farming.
1) Have you experienced a drop in FPS over the last week (after the latest patch)?
2) What settings do you play on? (High, epic)
3) Have you tried turning off the light sources? (lamps, torches)
4) What is the size of the world you built, what is the size of your save?
c:\Users\”name your windows account”\AppData\Local \Icarus\Saved\PlayerData\<your steamID>\Prospects\’name of your openworld’.json
318KB is my json, I've built bases 5 times the size on other games and never had 7fps while doing it.
its a cpu bound issue 100%, done some testing with the graphics and its not the issue, its to do with the built objects and cpu time.
They need to integrate a "reload" into the sleeping mechanic, so i don't have to leave the game to reload the map every 30 mins to get some fps back.
If they don't fix it soon i'm just gonna forget about this game and move on to The Front or something.
This is a very small save. And when I had a prehistoric PC: WIN7, i2600K(4.7GHz), 32GB DDR3, 6750XT, FullHD, High setting - it did not cause any significant drops in FPS, except: a forest fire, when there are a lot of animals or dead animals nearby (farming on a geyser ).
With your config and such a small world, there shouldn’t be any frame drop.
2) Do you have WIN11? Do you have resizable bar enabled?
2) Also, you did not answer anything about light sources. Numerous lamps under the ceiling can also cause a significant drop in FPS. There was already a case on Discord when one person even made a video on YouTube with an example of a sharp drop in FPS from turning on, in my opinion, 4 lamps that were nearby.
3) Also, you did not answer anything about the settings. Epic Shadows can also cause problems even on serious PCs.
PS Although the last two points do not match your descriptions, FPS would drop immediately and there would not be an increasing drop to very small values.
I already had an argument about ‘memory leaks’.

{If you are not aware, there are software methods for detecting the presence of a memory leak. Did you know about this? Do they detect the presence of memory leaks in Icarus? Please acknowledge this thread. (for starters, there is a significant ‘cash gap’ between private bytes and working set)}

that they lead to a decrease in FPS (apparently the load on the CPU increases). When they were introduced, I immediately thought it was the same thing, I had to turn off my deterrent.
