Tamed animals?

Has anyone else noticed a change in the behavior of tamed animals?

Previously they were, how shall I put this nicely? As thick as 2 short planks.
They would get stuck on any little bit of terrain as they attempt to follow the player in a direct straight line.

Today however when carting ores from one of my mining cabins back to my main base I noticed my beefalo patching around obstacles it couldn't fit through, even though it wasn't the route I took or in a straight line to me.

In addition to this Mr Beef took a break by a stream to have a drink... Since when did this happen?

Not complaining, it's awesome that the animals actually have a working brain now.

My horse got stuck right in the middle of a bad storm yesterday. I cleared everything I could see apart from a large tree, but still stuck. Eventually had to go make shelter whilst the storm passed. Went back to find a tiny sapling was all that was blocking him. I'd like to see more than just 'stay' and 'follow', My house is by the lake but my horses don't drink from it, or move around to eat. Will be great if they can.

Tamed animals don't need shelter, they don't take storm damage.

I needed to get shelter as I was in the red from storm damage, I wasn't too far from base so was trying to get horse & me both back in time. I could have left him earlier, I agree.

Note we will be releasing an update focused entirely on improving tamed animals even further, giving them their own levels and talents as well.

Ahh sorry I misunderstood what you meant, I thought you made the shelter for the animal, didn't realize it was for you.

To be fair, I didn't know the animals didn't take storm damage until after I went back for him, live and learn!
